I finally took the plunge and decided to buy Demon's Souls. As you well know, it's quite popular due to it's level of difficulty, no pause button, and unforgiving gameplay.

For those that played and completed Demon's Souls - How difficult was it for you?

First 5 hours or so...7-8/10. After I figured out how things worked, got some good gear, etc, 4/10

I haven't completed the game yet, I have about 19 hours on my main character on lvl 51 or something. In the beginning it was a really hard game, when I met my first blue eyed knight(not tutorial) I died about 10 times trying to kill it. later around lvl 20-40 (can't remember) I took the red eyed knight with "ease" sure it was hard, but I managed to kill it without being killed (died the second time I tried it lolz). So it's all about experience, I laugh whenever I get killed because its my own fault so I laugh at it and try again. a very good game.

Worth every cent.

My first time playing through it, it was pretty challenging. Some parts of it were easy, but there were a few sections had me close to throwing the controller out the window. I find that the window of error is extremely small, so one small slip provides a great potential to cause disaster. However, once you get well-geared and figure out the levels, it generally turns into a cakewalk. But as I said before, one slip-up can be disastrous, even to a seasoned player.

Overall, I believe that it's definitely one of the hardest modern games out there today. While the challenge is really frustrating at some points, completing it makes it feel so worthwhile.

Once I finally made it to the Phalanx it was all down hill from there. Aside from a couple different bosses I was slaughtering most everything I came across. With a little know how and some good timing you can be pretty much unstoppable in this game unless you mess up. I'd give it a 3 for difficulty but I have to give it at least a 6 for the evil Boletarian learning curve.

I think that's what the reviewer meant when he said, "In the end, you'll start feeling like a bada$$." I'm glad to hear thatit's not THAT brutal and unforgiving. I just wanted to make sure because I nearly threw the controller at the wall when I fought Aeres in God Mode.

Dude, that's what I really loved about the game. I felt like the freakin' man! Its all trial and error. Each enemy is very diverse with a good few different attacks they'll use on you. As long as you learn your enemies and learn how to spot their attacks and time a good dodge roll/ thrust combo you'll have them bass turds filleted in no time. Its all in your timing. I can't stress that enough. Timing is key. A couple other good tips are: A. Keep your armor light enough for you to roll freely. This is best for almost all the enemies, though there are a few that you may prefer heavier armor to battle. B. Don't hold your shield up the entire time. Your stamina replenishes very fast if your shield is down, so time the enemies attack and block only when you need to. If you run out of stamina you may as well be standing there in the nude. C. Be sure to level up whatever ability you need to to be proficient with your ranged attack of choice. Wether its the bow or a soul arrow ranged weapons make some parts of the game feel almost like you're cheating. Anyway, man, I love this game so much. I think I may do another play through soon.

Great tips man. I appreciate it! I will definitely need it. Now, I'm even more excited about DS.

It's pretty easy if you play the game with great caution, like putting up your shield when walking into new areas.
