Just make sure your 2.5" SATA HDD runs at 5400 rpm, the 7200's are cheaper but generate more heat. I have a 160gb and its perfect.

One question. Do you need format or install anything on the HD before you swap them out or anything like that?

once you put the HDD into the PS3, it will ask you to format it. If you have anything on the original HDD, i would move it to a USB storage device so that you don't lose it.

No the ps3 automatically formats it when your install the HDD. It takes about 10 seconds. Just make sure you back up your game data to a memory stick or something first. That is if you have or want to keep your save game data.

It can even be a 7200rpm drive. It will still work it will just run at 5400rpm. Though I don't know why you'd buy a 7200rpm drive in the first place seeing how much more expensive they are.

it doesn't have to run at 5400rpms. you just won't see any performance gains if you go with a 7200rpm.
