I've got a Japanese movie i really want to watch but can't seem to get the film to recognise the .srt subtitle file that it is meant to utilize. So basically how do i get the PS3 to put film and srt together without having to put it back onto my PC for a hard encode.

I think it's under one of the settings and you should be able to turn subtitles "ON". If not it might be on the movie itself, if ytou can read it.

Huh, if you look at the features of firmware update 2.20 it states that you could now play subtitles with DIVX/XVID files.

the subtitles have to be in the same container as the movie *(the same XviD/DivX file)

I know one program that can do it and it can be downloaded from here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/AVIAddXSubs.shtml

I haven't tested yet, but it should work.
