The ps3 and the pc both need to be networked through a wired or wireless router. On windows media player you need to go into library options and choose media sharing and allow access for the ps3 through it (it will be called unknown device). Most important is going into your firewall settings (in control panel) and make sure don't allow exceptions is not ticked. Then go to exceptions and ensure windows media player network sharing service are all ticked. That should sort it, if not or you are unsure of anything i have explained email me (alexb41@googlemail.com) p.s computer should be on or on standby for this to work.
Download a program called Tversity for the PC. Awesome program and much easier to use than MP11+. Then turn Media server on the PS3 and the PC on. Then search and there you go. If you want a step by step then there are plenty of tutorials online.

^ Tversity is a really great application, but it isn't free, you can just run it for some testing days. I personally bought it and I'm running it on my Debian File server ^__^ It's really worth the money
