I did a factory restore to my PS3. However, the latest firmware (2.30) is still stayed during the factory restore. How do I get the firmware to rollback to default for a fresh start?

This sucks. Sony should really allow us to reset the firmware. Because terrible stuff can happen to your PS3 every time you update to a new firmware. I have this deadly issue 80010514. It was caused by faulty firmware instalation and it completely kills your PS3's ability to play PS3 games. (Everything else works but the PS3 games) If I could just reset the firmware and redownload the latest it would fix itself. It seems like a scam on Sony's part. They design it so nobody can access/reset the firmware but themand then when your system eventually dies on you because of it (likely just outside of your warranty experiation, thats how it happens to most anyway.) You have to pay 150$ to have it fixed or replaced. It's so aggrivating. My system is pretty much useless to me without the ability to play PS3 games. -_-
Or you could just wait for the next firmware update and your problem would be solved. If the rumours are true then the next firmware update will be in a couple of days.conistant
lol, yeah, why don't we just wait a month if we got problems? xD They could have at least included a way to reinstall the actual Fw if there were some problems :S
you cant. and there is no reason to go back to an older firmware because some games require the latest firmware for trophy support and other stuff. and older games like burnout paradise have updated their game to v1.7 so i believe it will require the latest firmware.boybrushdred
Actually there IS a reason to go backwards, if your firmware corrupts your PS3 doesn't work right. If I could go back it'd give me the ability to reinstall the update and hopefully it wouldn't go wrong this time. Get it? lol I AM waiting till 2.70 comes out before I pay sony 150$ to fix the issue.
However you're also wrong about it being impossible to roll back, because it is, you just need to know what the heck you're doing.

So did your ps3 ever get fixed because, mine just got scrapped by the 3.00 upgrade & I feel I was screwed over by the company in the process, to make things worse the 3.01 update was suppose to fix the problems with the previous one. Now, I am seriously considering getting rid of my console & giving sony a nice middle finger by boycotting any of their products for the rest of my life. What do you think I should do?pimpdadI've never had a problem with updates and I have a 60 gig system. The thing is I try to get the update within the first few hours it's released or in a slow time where the servers aren't used heavily. There is a way of starting the PS3 up in safe mode that could allow some things to be corrected even with firmware updates. It's on the PS3 web site under tech support (lot of other helpful tips on the site before calling tech support).
I love how everyone on here acts rude when someone asks about rolling back their corrupted firmware. "Why would you want to do that?" "That's the worst thing you could do". When it happens to you, you'll be as pissed as we are.
I've been searching for ways to fix this for weeks now with no luck. I've formatted, restored my file system in safe mode, and ripped open my PS3 to clean the bd lens. Nothing has worked. I have an older PS3 that uses a single laser, so the drive must be fine. It simply refuses to run PS3 games.
This is looking more and more like a scam every day. Sony requires firmware updates periodically, which randomly stop some PS3's from reading games with each new update. When asked about the error code(a code written by Sony, mind you) they say they have no idea what it is, and that the system needs to be sent in for $150. "I told the technical support specialist" on the phone that I am technically inclined, and that they could simply tell me what they do to fix the problem and that I'd do it myself. The "specialist" said she honestly had no idea. I then asked if she'd please put me on with one of the guys who actually tears these things open, and maybe he or she could help me. No dice.
I hate SONY!! This is complete BS and it's happening to more and more people every day. If anyone has gotten anywhere with this issue, please post it somewhere. From the position that Sony is taking, we're definitelyon our own.
Hmmmm......... I DLL'd a dynamic theme on Friday & loaded up a brand new copy of Tiger Woods 2011. Got the dreaded error. Googled all sorts of solutions & fixes & tried them all multiple times but NOTHING works. I waited until yesterday Aft. & DLL'd the new firmware but I still get the error. I have a +/-3 year old 40G. First time a Sony platform has ever crapped out on me. Guess I'll just splurge for a slim. Mo only worry is that when I transfer my HD data that I'll import this error again. The main fix says that files on the HD are corrupted. I realize this is an old post but does anyone have any news?? Thanks.
You should have started your own post instead of bringing a post up from last year. As for you situation I hope you know that when you install the HDD in another PS3 it will be formated. You can't simply swap HDD without losing all the data on the HDD.Hmmmm......... I DLL'd a dynamic theme on Friday & loaded up a brand new copy of Tiger Woods 2011. Got the dreaded error. You can not "roll back" but you can REINSTALL the CURRENT firmware if you had any problem... Most users dont know how to do this.
If you ever apply a faulty Firmware, you can turn off your PS3 and then press the CONSOLE "on" and keep pressing it... The PS3 will "beep" 2 times (indicating that it has resetted the VIDEO settings). Keep pressing it and the PS3 will beep THREE TIMES indicating that the MAINTANENCE MENU has been activated. Now you can stop pressing ON.
From this menu, you can REDOWNLOAD and REAPPLY a firmware update that has gone wrong.
I hope this could help you.
