Last night i was playing Oblivion and i was doing that mission where we have to help win back Kvatch's castle from the creatures that came from the plane of Oblivion. I entered a room, killed a Scamp (or whatever that is called) and then decided to lay down my character in a bed to sleep, save the game and gain some health. When my character woke up he was a vampire... I was like "Wtf just happened?". Then i reloaded the game and he wasn't a vampire anymore. I decided to put my character to sleep later and see what would happen. This time i put my character to sleep in a quiet place, with no monsters in rooms nearby, and he woke up normal...

That left me a bit confused. I was confused about how he turned out a vampire in the first time! So my question is, how do we become a vampire in this game? What events have to occur in order for that to happen?

I think it's random.  The first time I played Oblivion, I became a vampire after purchasing the small house at the waterfront (in the Imperial City) - and sleeping there the first night.  My character had a dream, then woke up as a vampire.  I'm playing a 2nd time through and I'm at the point where I've finished the main quest, all the guild quests and I just purchased the houses in Skingrad, Anvil, Burma, and in the Imperial City.  I slept in that same waterfront house and still haven't been turned into a vampire.

I thought it might have something to do with Count Hassildor (the vampire) in Skingrad but I went to visit him and he didn't say anything about it.  I went to see Roland Janseric in the Imperial City (the vampire hunter), finished his mission, but still no visits from vampires.

It's not random people. Anytime you fight a vampire, you have a chance of contracting the disease. Read the wiki I posted! Seesh.

I did read it - the 1st time I played it, I was turned into a vampire when I was sleeping. This 2nd time, I've killed all the vampires in the caves and pretty much finished the game (including killing Vicente) and I'm still not one. Seesh.

Thanks for the link first of all.

Yeah, that must be it. I had a mission where i had to kill 5 vampires that were hidden in a cave. I'm probably infected and will turn a vampire eventually.

According to that site you can only become a vampire once. I know you said you were playing a new game but could that possibly be related?

I'm pretty sure I was bitten, contracted porphyric hemophilia, but I went to a temple and was cured.  Then later in the game, that's when I was sleeping and the dream was actually a vampire sinking his/her teeth into me (hope it was a her) and I was turned into a vampire.  That's when I got the mission to see Count Hassildor so he could give me the quest for the Cure (different from just visiting a temple).  In my 2nd game, Vicente is not around anymore so I can't become a vampire from his Gift.

We can, but for how long? Can we always be a vampire with their powers and normal appearance as long as we "feed"? Or do we have to cure ourselves at some point?

Yes, you can but as your vampirism progresses, people start avoiding you & at a certain point, you can't go out in daylight anymore. If you progress enough, people start chasing after you. It makes missions harder to complete although you are almost immunue to any disease.  Oh, and you acquire NightEye (kind of like nightvision).  If you check your character's appearance in the menu, you're kind of scary looking.

Yeah, but can't we get a normal appearance by feeding on a victim?

Yes, you have to feed regularly or your appearance starts changing.  If you've fed within 24 hours, you don't have any symptoms.

Yes, but it's kind of hard to find people so that can you feed on them especially during the day time which is when you need blood the most.

i wouldn't suggest becoming a vampire,  there are some advantages but there are also disadvantages.  and to cure it,  is long and excruciating process.

You don't have to feed every days if you don't sleep. Just wait to heal and sleep only when you level up. Should avoid the trouble of feeding every days. You can feed from people in your guild so it's not hard (but don't let anyone see you)

Sleep in a cave. Three days later, you're a vampire. Some say it sucks, being a vampire. I think it's great, it makes you much stronger. When sun damage comes into play, just go suck a hobo's blood to wear your vampirism down.

Download the gamespot Oblivion guide. It can be extremely helpful.
