real world or local?

If you are behind a router you need to check the router for the real world IP, else you can look up the ip under *suprise* System Settings.

You need to log onto the router and check for WAN IP. Unfortunately each router's different so I am not sure how you can log onto your router. What you can do is go to www.portforward.com and they should have the information on how to manage that.

U open the command prompt and then type: ipconfig

the computer then displays ur local computers IP address and the IP address of ur router or default gateway. Be aware though that the IP address of ur computer will change everytime u turn ur computer on depending on how many other devices are connected to ur network.

U can click on the start button then click on 'run' and then type in 'cmd' or u can go 'start, all programmes, accessories, then command prompt' is one of the options in the list below.

Correct me if I am wrong...

You can get the local IP of the router, not the real world IP, although you can get the IP of DNS server that way. I am not on a wintel box to check out right at this moment.

You can get to command prompt by hitting Ctrl+R then type cmd, then enter ipconfig

edit:yip, that will only get you the local network setup. well, if that's what the TC needed.
