Is it safer to stand it up, lay it down or does it not matter?

So it's pretty much preference and your home set up...There hasn't been any negative news on a certain way of placing the system?...Thanks for the help

I put it horizontally, because there is a "roof" above it :P lol no jk, I heard that it is better because dust won't be able to enter directly from the upper ventilating holes.

horizontally. Studies show that putting it horizontally will make the ps3 cooler.

I don't think it really matters a whole lot since it was designed with both a horizontal and vertical placement in mind

Yeah, it was designed to be placed in either direction. Mine's horizontal by the way, but sometimes I like to switch it up.

I keep mine vertical, it looks better and takes up less floor space. Hasn't caused me any problems anyway.

Vertical, laying it down is a bit too bulky for me. Though if i change my home setup i might put it horizontally. But for now i like it vertical, looks sexxaayy :P

Horizontal is slightly better, i used to place it vertical because it looks nicer, but i notice there's lots of dust at the USB slots.

Whereas placing it horizontal would prevent that problem.

Also the top vents when place vertical tends to gather dust that's HARD to wipe off, at least in horizontal, althought gathers more dust, can be cleaned easily.

I dont think a company would make a console that can be placed two seperate ways if one was superior to the other.. I lay mine down, I had my 360 standing for 5 months until someone knocked it over and destroyed my HDD, the console was fine but the HDD was gone. PRP's FTW.

Horizontal on top of the DVD/VCR. Plenty of ventilation though.

it doesnt matter if u scratch blu rays, they will always work.

mine is vertical. its too ugly if its horizontal, you can easily see how round n bulky it is, but when its vertical it just looks shiny and nice and not ugly at all.

Does placing it vertically rly making its ventilation more effective? If this is the case I might put mine vertically as well, so as you can guess ive been gaming with it horizontally.

Verticle, but i only got it at Christmas so it hasn't been long..

I've heard people say it gives better ventilation standing up or laying down, does anyone actually know or does everyone just make it up in their own mind?

yes it does make a difference, i cant explain personally but next time i see my buddy (computer engineer and programmer) I'll have him leave a nice long msg about this for ppl...He was the one who initially advised me to stand it vertically so i did. Anyways as long as you keep your entertainment area clean of dust (so it doesnt build up on top) the system will operate at a cooler temp. Happy gaming everyone!

It's preference. Safe either way. I lay mine down because of my set up and because I'm afraid it will get knocked over and err...not fall so gracefully.

it does not ventilate better standing up.

The bottom has vents,it will pull NO air if standing up!!!!!!!!!!

That's correct. Only the flat bottom and curved top of the system don't have vents for airflow.

It's possible that by standing the PS3 vertically, it can vent the hot air better, since hot air rises, and positioning it vertically places a slew of vents at the top for the hot air to escape more naturally. Horizontally, the hot air would just rise and get trapped, but that's what the fans are for. Mines on its side, and I've had few problems (none of which I would blame on over-heating).

I have read that the Ps2 had problems when you stood it vertically. It had something to do with the laser had to work harder and lead to those who had it vertically had more chance of getting the 'Disc read error of death' screen. Anyway my first gen ps2 laser broke and I never put it verticly.

I'm sure the PS3 is built alot better anyways.

I have mine's sitting vertically with a stand. The stand also has 4 slots to put games/blurays(COD4, Warhawk, Live Free or Die Hard, and Casino Royale).
