All you need to do to charge the PS3 controller is to plug the controller usb cable into the controller and the system while you play and it will automatically charge for you.  And by the way, the charging is extremely fast so you can disconnect it after a few hours and play wireless again.  As soon as the red blinking on the controller stop and just become a red light, you can disconnet it.

not nearly long enough.... only like 3' .... you will need a usb extension unless you want your eyes to go bad from sitting so close to your T.V.

it recharges with a USB cable. there's a USB cable with the controller when you buy the PS3. there's NOT a USB cable with a new controller bought seperatly. (at least there wasnt one in nov. '06)

you can charge the controllers and keep your ps3 off. the dock is something you can plug into the wall and just charge from there. to charge the controllers with the PS3, it has to be on

Well, it lets you plug in up to four Playstation 3 controllers at the same time, via the docking station, which just plugs into a standard wall outlet. Pretty nifty idea, as you can only charge the controllers otherwise with the PS3 on. If I ever had a need to worry about more than my one controller, I'd definitely look into purchasing that.

You can also charge the controller via your computer's USB ports. Just don't plug like, 7 of them in, run your DVD burner, and print something at the same time. You'll blow out your PSU. :P

And you can buy other USB cables if you find that 3' is too short.

Personally, I find the whole 3' USB cord thing to be ridiculously stupid. Even at least 5' would have been fine. It seems like everywhere I sit if I need to recharge my controller, but still want to play some games, I find myself thinking "Jeez, if only I had an extra two feet of cable...

In regards to the cable being short, try leaving the controller plugged in while watching a movie. That way you don't have to sit close to the tv while playing a game. ;)

i have 2 controllers and i charge one while playing with the other. or, charge during movies.  the length of the cable doesnt affect me all that much for that reason.  i do see tho how it being short can be a pain for some guys.  and i do find it ridiculous that you cant charge it while the ps3 is off. you'd think you'd be able to charge while it's in standby mode

Never found the 3' to be short, but then again, I usually only charge it when I'm watching a movie or downloading something off of the store.

You can get longer cables. It's just a USB to mini USB cable.

I have two 9ft USB cables. I just alternate charging the controllers if it is just me playing. If we get co-op going, I have the extra cable just in case things fail. I might look into buying one of Nyko's charging stations if I get some more controllers.
