First generation 80GB with BC.
Died on November 6, just short of its second birthday.
It was also vertical for a good 3/4 of its lifetime. There was at least 2 feet of space on all sides and the only time the fan ever got loud, from what I remember, was when I would watch anime on the browser for hours on end.
my ps3 noticeably, heats up my room. i know this because once i walk out of my room its about 3 degrees colder. but the ps3 works as a heater too, right? lol.. i guess i don't mind as the weather gets colder.

Makes my room heat up as if a heater was in there. No joke, in the summer I would have to stop playing just because the PS3 would heat the room to ungodlike levels. Duckman5
Lol same here.

On topic, Yes my PS3 does seem to noticeably heat up my room too when its on for long periods of time.

So summer had nothing to do with heating up the room? In the summer I had to stop playing because of outside heat heating up the inside, and my little a/c unit didn't show up in time for the real heat wave.

No but I mean average summer nights it would heat the room up much more than normal and make it as hot as during the day. On cool winter nights (like right now) it actually makes the room pleasantly warm. Still there is a huge difference between room with no PS3 on to room with PS3 on.Mine gets a little warm but nothing too serious. Sessions last from 2 right on up to 8 hours sometimes. 40g all original, bought new just over 2 years ago. As for a PS3 actually increasing the temp of a room, uh... don't think so unless you consider closets or cupboards to be rooms.
Are you sure you werent hot because you were really into the game you are playing? maybe you are so focused on the game your playing you get a little hot and dont notice it. I have the Metal gear 80gb ps3 and it does get somewhat warm but not enough to heat up the room its in. Somewhere on this forum it was suggested to use pop caps to put under the ps3 so more air can flow. I tried it and it did work a little. If you are really worried about your ps3 then point a fan at it especially if your gonna be playing for a long period of time. I do this most of the time.
This sounds a lot like sarcasm, but giving the benefit of doubt... No, it really does heat up the room. When I pause (to go get a drink) and step out, there is a rather significant temperature difference between the air in my room and the rest of the house. Even more so once the fans start to spin up audibly. It's about the one thing I envy with the slim... but what else can I do? With Sony as gung-ho about neutering BC out of the ps3, I have to cling to this one for dear life. Are you sure you werent hot because you were really into the game you are playing? maybe you are so focused on the game your playing you get a little hot and dont notice it. 60 gig, sitting horizontal. The exhaust is luke warm, but the system itself is, I'd say, room temp. Currently waiting for downloads to finish, to give you an idea of what it's doing right now. As for when it's playing games, well, it's hard to buy it a few drinks and say nice things so i can touch it while it's busy (oh come on! someone had to make that joke and 3 pages in? I'm near ashamed someone didn't chime in earlier :P )
edit: make that 4 pages in.
i have a 120 gig slim and i live near the equator. our idea of a cold front is this week itll be 75 degrees f. i also live in a warehouse converted into a apartment (metal walls) i have mine in a large room with plenty of open space and a wall unit a/c. after bout 3 hours or so the slim will get pretty hot out the exhaust (hotter than my previous 40 gig) never changes the room temp or effects gaming at all though.

Buy another BC model new off the net as I did. LOL. I know expensive but i just wanted to play it on the safeside since I like having all in one systems that can play PS2 games(space limit in a 1 bedroom condo). Both are running fine and they are the 80gb BC MGS4 models.Bothgot a little hotter during the summer when I didn't have the AC on but as soon as I did they cooled down and the fan stopped blowing. They do get a little warm otherwise but not to the point like the TC describes. Hey turn on your AC if they are getting that hot or make sure that your fan is on in that room. I have a 3 year warranty on the older one that I bought Aug. 2008 and a 2 year warranty on the one I bought June 2009 so I'm good either way until middle of 2011.
