I'm 99.9% sure I'm getting a PS3 for Christmas with Metal Gear Solid 4, which of course I'm very excited about. Unfortunately, the day after Christmas I'll be stuck at my vacation home, which only has a TV capable going to 480p. Is it worth bringing so I have something to do and just experiencing the story, or is the presentation so much a part of it that it's better to be first experienced in HD?

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I really love getting the best experience possible on my first runthrough of something. It's why I drove 45 minutes to see The Dark Knight in IMAX...twice. And I want to make sure I'm going to be able to read the text :P

Even on a standard tv the game will look great, of course playing on HD will make it look even better. You will still enjoy the game even on sdtv.

It'll be fine, I managed to complete the entire game on my 8 year old sh!tbox tv, it has awful quality and 2 massive streaks down each side of the screen, that mess up the picture. But when I hooked it up to my dads 50" 1080p hdtv.....phew.

I use it on a (very crappy) SDTV... it still looks amazing, I have to say. I can only imagine having it on a big screen 1080p TV... :(

I gotta say, if you'll have access to an HDTV when you get home, I think you should wait.

Yes, the game still looks great in SD, but in HD it's far, far better looking, and definitely adds to the experience.

I say you should wait until you get back to experience MGS4 in its full glory in HD.

I game on a standard def TV. I have yet to buy a PS3, but I will play with the SD hopefully just fine. I played Xbox 360 for 2 years on a standard def TV, and it was fine. To me, audio makes WAY more impact on the playing experience.
