How is the PS3 REALLY doing?

The PS3 isn't quite selling like hot cakes at the moment (compared to the Wii, which outshadows everything in sales at this stage). Compared to its predecessors and the 360, however, it's doing pretty good.

The word failure is tossed around a lot since people had extremely high expectations, but the PS3 is far from it.

Biggest problem is still that the PS3 is lacking interesting games at the moment, which (next to the price point) is its biggest drawback. However, people are still willing to pay 600 bucks for it and ones the good titles start rolling in, I see no problem for the PS3 picking up in sales.

 I's just going through its teething problems at the moment i guess...Xbox had them and Wii had them as well

the only prob for me is that there is not enough games lunched....other then that i would gladly pay 667euros again...

Once all the fancy applications come into play, like Home, etc and the AAA titles start lining the shelves it will be unstoppable. i give it a year. :)

Agreed, i give it a year, and we wont even be having this conversation, or a Thread asking how the Ps3 is doing. Give it 2 and the Ps3 will clearly be dominating

Fact is the PS3 is clearly the superior machine, its just in its growing stages, everyone and everything has em..

IMO Microsoft clearly knows SONY is coming, and its only a matter of time before the Ps3's full potential runs away w/ any competition, Microsoft proved it by releasing a ELITE, to try to compare, IF IT CAN. 

Lets remeber why MS got into the console war. The war with the PS. MS was worried back when the ps 1 was killing off the PC. The Xbox or Direct X - Box was made to take down sony ps2. Now they made the Xbox and it failed. I mean big ass controller that they had to make smaller and the price drop so early in the game. Was really sad. Xbox this time around wanted to be first. They did that well, except you know the red ring of death and now the elite. MS just want to be number one - but now they can't because the Wii is going to drop them.

In regards to the ps3. It;s doing well. PS is always slow to start with, I brought the ps2 on launch and trust me the same issues we see now are similar. Just this time teh PS3 has started last. But have faith. Sony is a smart company and they have made an awesome machine. It's all about the planning, MS is running so fast that they burn out and only selling remake xbox to the fans due to rushing. First gen games are really the apetister not the meal. Anyways after Halo comes out what is the xbox worth :P Most ppl bash the ps3 due to the price and that they can't justify the means to buy it. Plus ppl want games now. xbox has games now. But that will change. PAL will win this one :D

Most people Critic and bash what they simply cannot have, its a means of justification. Whether it be price or whatever....  

They will find something, even if Sony lowered the price.

I cannot comment on the PSP i dont own one, as tempting as it may be, i dont feel i would use it enough. 

Its this simple.  How can a console, that will last at least five years, fail within the first 6 months?  It doesn't.

PS3 still has a lot to deliver if they are to get back in the game.  But this game is far from over and the reigning champs are not going to go without a fight.

By December, I think everyone, including lemmings, will be singing a different tune.  And I don't mean Deck The Halls.

For PSP you really cant compare it to the DS sales wise because the handheld has been Nintendo's stomping ground for years, however instead look at all of the other handhelds that have tried over the years, Game gear, Atari Lynx and the others were failures.

The only other handheld that has been able to take anything away from Nintendo has been the PSP, it doesn't match it for sales but it isn't doing badly (especially in Europe)

Personally I much, much prefer the PSP.. I have only ever had 2 DS games  compared to the two dozen or so PSP games I've owned at some point or another. 

I agree with what everyone has sad about the PS3.

For the PSP, I'm not sure how bad it's doing, I know a dozen people that have them and just love them, and now it's only 50 dollars more than the Nintendo DS, which will make the decision making for buying a handheld harder, and more easy for people to pick the PSP.

(Think Dead Rising, Gears, and recently Forza 2) It also took sony's 1st party titles. (GTAIV, and Assassin's Creed Though Rockstar has said 360 limitations may weaken the game) After Halo There's not much that the 360 has that isnt shared with the PS3 and the PS3 has got some impressive titles coming out as-well (Gran Turismo 5, MGS4 and Killzone) the tables might turn.

Of course its hard to say, But to say that Sony is down for the count is just stupid. Of course there's monetery losses for Sony but thats also contributing to the Blu-Ray as-well I expect that in a year we will see very different NexGen Graphs. But until then microsoft has the lead.

Of course the Xbox division is also still loosing money, but that's all a part of the investment, which both MS and Sony will have calculated, and with the start the PS3 has had, there's nothing to worry about, Blu-Ray is gaining the upperhand in studiosupport, and as soon as the game library fills out, it's buisness as usual for the PS3. 

 The PS3 is doing pretty much like PSP right now. but as far as I can see is PS3 is not only a great system and for games bcuz I dont really see nothing else better.....I dunno, but it seems like PS3 has better games coming yet.

 If it wasnt for "ring of death" and the Live fees, I wouldve stick with 360, but that's not the case. not to mention too much shooters and racing type of games.

So true. I talked my friend into buying the Wii just so I could play one and get the Wii experience. I wasn't going to pay for one because there isn't much to the Wii. Point is now he wants to get a PS3 but no longer has the money. His mom is going to buy his  Wii now so he can get a PS3. He's a sucker. 

sony is indeed losin money as they are sellin ever system at a loss still, , but other than that id say the system is doin fine for itself other than that-DirtySanchez-

erm... no its not.

PS3 sold more units in the first 5 months than the 360 did.  Then had a terrible 6th month because the best game that came out was CaC.
