I usually completely turn the ps3 off at night before I go to bed. But during the day (on my days off from work) I usually leave it on standby, I'll play for an hour or an hour 1/2, than take a 20-30 minute break and leave it on standby.

I always turn it off, but I heard some people saying that you should actually leave it on standby.

You can leave it in standby forever. Only turn it off on the back if you won't be playing for a significant amount of time.

it doesent hurt it to leave it on standby. Its recomended that if you go on a long vacation you turn it off from the back. But from what i know you can leave it on standby overnight even for 2 days thats fine

The only time I turn it off from the back is when I'm at work, or before I go to bed, or during a thunderstorm.

Just leave it on standby. And during a thunderstorm, just turning it off won't help, you need to unplug it (if you're that worried about it).

A PS3 in standby mode is equivalent to an Xbox 360 turned off but still plugged into the wall, or a TV turned off but plugged in. How do you think a remote can turn on a TV, 360, or PS3? The device must be in standby so it can receive the signal to turn on. My point is that most electronics are in standby mode when you're not using them. The PS3 just gives you an option to fully turn off the console without unplugging it from a wall. So your PS3 will be fine if you never turn off the switch in the back.

I've had mines on standby since Nov 06 (or whenever launch date was) I was only turned off when I moved. And it was the first thing I hooked up

Bingo. Well put :) I never touch the powerswitch in the back and my 60GB from release is doing just fine. (though the freezes from 3.00 update scared the heck out of me)

I had my PS3 on 24/7 for over two years and just recently started turning it off into stand-by lately. I never use the power switch on the back.

Standby won't hurt it. Though turning the console all the way off might save a few pennies on your electricity bill.

Forever. I never turn my PS3 off from the back switch unless I absolutely need to.

There's a reason the Slim doesn't even have that switch anymore.
