It better not be under 20h. I'm hoping it's around 30. The longer the better but I can't see it being any more then 30. Look at how short recent games like COD4, Drake's and assaians Creed were!
some where around 13 or 12, its always been like thatrm_fc
ya hopefully this one will be around 15- 16 hours...its all good cause they are including metal gear online :)...SO NO ONE SHOULD BE COMPLAINING !! *points finger at everyone with a mean look *
30-40 is a good guess. It takes place in 4 different areas of the world with each one being pretty lengthy. Also the cutscenes alone total 4 hours!!!!!jayblack138
there are actually five different areas...2 of which are completely unknown (one is probably Outer Heaven), the other three are in the middle east, south america, eastern europe.
I think mgs4 will be 30-35 hours hopefully, cuz of the blueray. redskins2156
You don't own a PS3 yet do you? Because if you did, you should have gotten over this fanboy crap notion that Blu Ray (Not Blue Ray) has even the tiniest timpact towards game length. High Definition sound and FMV cutscenes are what take up huge amounts of space on a disc, anything uncompressed or of lesser compression aka better quality, takes up huge amounts of space, and that's what Blu Ray is about.
Heavenly Sword, Lair, and Uncharted are all 3 games that supposedly wouldn't come close to fitting on a DVD and take full advantage and need the space available on a 50g Blu Ray, but yet not a one of them comes even close to 10 hours in gameplay length, well Lair is around 10, if you can stand playing it that long. But Uncharted and HS are 6 - 8. I'm not saying they are not great games, but they are short and use up a lot of data space on the disc.
BD is about opening up the quality and presentation value of a game, and several games have shown the fruits of that. However not one game yet has shown us any sign that BD is going to have any impact on actual game length.
If your basing your estimate on MGS 4s length because of BD, your in for a shock when it comes out. Plus, not one game in the series has ever been more than a 15 hour experience, despite some of you people claiming 20 or 25 hours, maybe you took a nap in the middle of it and played on super hard and sucked at it, but none of the games are that long. I promise you that there is absolutely no chance in hell that MGS 4 is anywhere near 30 - 40 hours. If it's 15 to 20, it will be fantastic and a great end to the series.

Don't know what the heck you're talking about but Uncharted and HS are definitely over 8 hours unless you're extremely good at both games.
Especially HS on hell mode and Uncharted on Crushing, both can easily consume over 10 hours to beat.
If you mean just completing the game, I think it will be around a dozen of hours, that's how they have always been. But there's usually over 40 hours of gameplay to do everything there is to do.
And since in this game we have some choices to make, I'm sure that this will improve the replay value to try other things and getting to go to places that we couldn't otherwise.
35-40 hours, I'd say.

Children Of Bodom ftw!

Simmer down there, Schumi! Yes, it is ridiculous to base estimates on game length based upon storage space, especially when Kojima has already stated that most of the disc is filled with audio. Also, even though the previous entries never exceeded 15 hours or so, I would not be surprised if this one does, seeing as it has to wrap up every loose end. I doubt it goes over 20, but 18 is definitely in MGS's wheelhouse.
it took me 12 hours to beat mgs3 watching all the cutscenes also, but i plyed rambo like killing all the enemies :)
but i sure hope mgs4 lasts atleast 20 hours :(
