PS3 dropped in 2006, so I honestly would say we'll probably hear something about a new console (rumors first..of course) circulating around late 2012-2013. I am not stating that the new system will drop around then....only that news/rumors will start breaking the barrier around that time. Also, YES, it is a good investment as it is still considered a new next gen console & is still kicking out some cool games.
I know it's been 4 years now.
But I have over $4000 invested in this thing, between system, games, controllers...
I am NOT ready for another system yet. I think the PS3 has plenty more potential and quite a few more years of life in it.
My best guess is 2 and a half years until PS4. You may consider giving it a few months until a price drop to $250 or maybe $200.Floppy_JimI wouldn't expect another price drop on the PS3 until after the PS4 is released. The only other factor is whether or not MS gives the 360 a pricecut, and I don't see that happening since they just put out their "new & improved" 360. PS2 was about 6 years old when the PS3 was launched, and Sony has put far more resources into the PS3 than they did with the PS2 at the point in it's life. With that being said... I don't see a new Sony console coming for at least another 3-4 years. Even if they started working on one today, I don't think they'll be rushing it out like they did with the PS3.

I would say till 2020 but in terms of when Sony will launch its next system I reckon PS3 has 4 more years until the launch of PS4.
Current gen of consoles has plenty of time left to drop new releases of awesome games. It's safe to say that if you get a PS3 now, not only will you have the current top sellers to play, but i estimate 4 or 5 new hits between now and the next gen. By hits, I don't mean just any game with a score over 80, I mean games like Killzone and Uncharted that really push the edge in terms of gameplay and graphics. Buying one now will provide a lot of enjoyment before the next generation of consoles comes out, even if you only get a few of the best games on PS3.

There will not be another price drop for awhile.
I think PS3 is going to ride the 'move' and '3d' band wagon for the next few years, to test the waters. Then they may make a decision to build a new console. I'm sure they'll want to see if the motion technology catches on for them or it will be a bust. If anything I'd assume they won't have a new console for the next 5 years or so.
So IMO i'd go and buy one, and enjoy some sweet games.
Honestly, they're most likely going over plans for it as we type. The PS3 has another 6 years of life at least. Sony wouldn't be doing everything they're doing right now only to introduce a new console in the next couple of years. I doubt they're even thinking PS4 right now.

The Playstation 3 will last a full 10 years. Sony has to recoup the money spent creating/marketing the Playstation 3. The first Generations of PS3 (The entire 'Phat' versions of Playstation 3's The 20,40,60,80,160, Gigers) The Fat model's of Playstation 3 Failed to impress the "Videogaming Universe" and didn't win the "So-called Console wars" and/or Sales Race. All versions of the PS3 Fat/phat models. Didn't outsell the consoles from the other Gaming companies. (N & M) The early Playstation 3's while excellent gaming machines. failed to compete.
So Then Sony made thePlaystation 3 Slimline 120 & 250 Gigers. Which has sold very well. The Playstation3are great gaming consoles better the wii & Xbox 360. But Sony madethem way too expensive withfeatures that games didn't care about. So the Slim PS3's are selling much better. Sony's Playstation 3 has plenty of life left in it. It will be a while until Sony starts thinking about Playstation 4. So PS3 will easily last 10 years...

Do you have a link for that so I can see what you're talking about? As for the pricecut, I'm not sure if they can afford one before then. Sony lost a lot of money during the first 3 yrs of the PS3's life... I guess we can only wait and see.

I had a look, turns out that news originated from....HipHopGamer of all places :? Take that as you will. A leaked Gamestop listing supposedly showed "PS3 120GB Core" for $200 and Move bundles for $300. I don't know how they would afford something that drastic unless Move and PS+ take off in a big way.
Then don't buy the new system, the PS3 will still be supported regardless if a new console is released within the next 4-5 years.I know it's been 4 years now.

I paid $500 for my PS3, and every time the price drops I get a nice warm feeling in my heart. Then don't buy the new system, the PS3 will still be supported regardless if a new console is released within the next 4-5 years. Yes, I know I have the power to just not buy any new system. But as many technophiles behave, it is very hard not to instantly want the latest greatest toy. My biggest concern is a lack of PS3 B/C. This is a valid worry as we see what happened to B/C for PS2. I know there are solutions to this though. Just keep my PS3 or get another. To be honest though, I think I just don't want SONY to have to divide their time. I also don't want the PS3 to be relegated to NOT the latest greatest in their lineup. But really, this is not something I worry about anytime in the near future. I amy certainly change my mind by the time a new PS comes out.with the rising cost of R&D, and the fact the PS3 still has plenty of life in it, I wouldnt expect a new sony system until 2012-2013
I think the PS3 still has around 4 years yet until the PS4 comes out. I don't think we need the new one anytime soon, the PS3 is awesome. So it's definitely worth getting a PS3, so go grab one :)
a good 5+ more years... probably at the end of 2015
xbox360 and ps3 is going to milk the hell out of this gen (in a good way)
Even if a new console comes out in 2 or 3 years it's still worth getting the PS3 now. Have a look at the support they still provide for the PS2. If Sony stick with this model your PS3 will be able to be used well after the PS4 is released.will there be a new sony console coming out, and is it still worth buying a ps3 now or in the next year or so?
