On average about 8-9 hours. This changes with the brightness setting and how much disc loading and processing the game uses. Using the WiFi, such as streaming music off my PS3, lasted me just under 5 hours of straight play. I tend to need to charge it just once a week, unless i get a new game i'm playing nonstop. A second back up battery is a good idea for vacations or long trips, but isn't necessary for casual play.

If you play UMD games, the average life is about 5-6 hours max... about half of that when playing wifi games. This is what I have experienced, and this is even what Sony has stated to be true. 8-9 hours for the normal PSP battery is too high...

Depends on the game. Wild Arms, Final Fantasy and FFT let my battery (the one that came packed) last for almost 10 hours, while my most complex ones as MGS, GoW and FF CC have a 7 hour lifespan.

I know brightness can have a large affect on battery, what brightness level are these estimates at? I'm going on a plane trip as well, plane changes over and the total travel time tends to be about 9-12 hours, and I'm curious if my battery can take the constant FFT, FFCC, and family guy shows I'll be watching. (Im not sure if the airport terminal when I switch will have outlets for recharge, but I should be good right?)

I only got my PSP on Friday and I've already recharged the battery twice! It seems to last about 5-6 hours depending on brightness, volume etc. An annoying flaw in an otherwise awesome console.

I get about 4 hours....usually, on mine. (1200 mAh, Daxter package.)

But this should get you well into the 10's.... or so they say, for the slim.... http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PSP-Battery-Kit/dp/B00101UWWY/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1208897768&sr=8-16
