It depends on what you're doing. It's supposed to be rated for 5 hrs (game playing) to 10 hrs (mp3 with the screen off....maybe thru headphones too). The slim is more energy efficient than the fat psp, but they shrunk the battery too. I think that if you used a fat battery you'd get longer times, but then it'd be sticking out, and would need a special cover. Not sure if that cover has been released yet.
I play mine quite a bit, it last a long time, around 7-10 hours gametime and it only takes an hour or two to charge so its pretty good battery-wise. I have the slim PSP though.

^^^ how much does the battery go for, and does it stick a lot on the slim? I'm interested in buying this. I get about 6-7 hours game time on PSP Slim
It costs $45 in the US. I imported one from there to the UK. It states 11 hours on the battery in system settings on the PSP and is well worth the money. It lasts absoutely ages. Also it sticks out slightely but does not bother me at all for the increased battery life is well worth it.
