I really wanna play this game, as I never managed to complete a single FF game before. Closest I've ever got was beating a few Kingdom Hearts games. I'm wondering how long the main story is including like side-missions and what-not?

50 Hours at best
I feel for you man, I was never able to complete a Final Fantasy until I told myself I was going to beat FFX which I did and was worth the setbacks I encountered. However I will now complete FFXIII no matter what so I can experience another full fledge FF experience. See you at the Finish Line.
i've heard 60 hours for the main quest and 100+ hours if you're going to complete all the side quests along with the main quest.
i'm only lik 15 hrs into this game so far, and i barely scratched the surface of this game, its that long
Why do I keep hearing or seeing the word linear in every review? What does that mean? The only FF games I've beaten were IV and X and I have XII but god it's so boring that I still haven't completed. X was probably the only FF game that kept me playing.email2003
Let me explain "linear" for you. Everyone calling this game "linear" are pretty much idiots; linearity is the lifeblood of JRPG's. Every FF has been linear and has been praised for it, yet just because it's more apparent in FFXIII, it gets condemned. The only FF that wasn't linear was FFX-2, which brought about a sandbox-esque approach, and was actually bashed for it. Talk about hypocrisy. XII, which is fantastic by the way, gives a very open feel; it was structured like an MMO to give the illusion of freedom, but it's still very much linear, as you have a single objective to complete, you don't have a choice. FFX was very linear, and it got praised, as it should. So I don't know why you keep hearing and seeing the word linear in every review, they're acting like it's a brand new appraoch for the series.
Now, if you're actually asking what the word linear means, it's basically Point A - Point B. In terms of a game, it means it has a set structure of beginning, middle, and end, with little deviation from that course. If you weren't, and I mistook you, my bad. It's just very confusing that linearity is suddenly a shocking revelation for an FF game.

I see. Well said. I still don't know why I enjoyed X over XII.[QUOTE="Khadaj32"][QUOTE="email2003"]Why do I keep hearing or seeing the word linear in every review? What does that mean? I see. Well said. I still don't know why I enjoyed X over XII.Oh, I enjoyed X over XII, as I think most FF fans did. FFX was just one of those games that got everything right. FFXII was a great game, but it doesn't touch X.
Bottom line is this, is XIII doing the ame as X did as in linear cause if it is then I pretty much enjoyed it like that. Also, anyone who already has played this game please tell me if they're still using that lame way of obtaining wepons and etc like they did in XII? That's what ticked me off about XII.email2003
You'll be happy to know that FFXIII is very similar in terms of story linearity and character progression. The sphere grid from X returns in an upgraded form, which is pretty awesome as I loved the sphere grid. As for weapons, there's no bazaar mechanic, you buy/find/craft your own. So rest easy, my friend.

I think you have Final Fantasy XIII confused with Bad Company 2. Understandable...they're so...similar...?
I think you have the post confused with the nature of being 'serious'.Oh...that was humor? Do you go into Bad Company 2 threads and state Vanille is annoying in all caps?
:/

No, his joke was rooted in the fact that mostly all games these days are multiplayer with a short single player. Its a joke because FFXIII digresses from this trend, and he is trying to apply the game toward these current trends. Basically, he is mocking current trends. He can't just go into BC2 threads and talk about FFXIII because that doesn't make sense (he wouldn't be mocking anything). I don't know, i found it funny ;)[QUOTE="Khadaj32"][QUOTE="CraigyM83"] I think you have the post confused with the nature of being 'serious'.director13

You do recall how you got weapons in XII right? You had to unlock the whatever in the chessboard and then you had to go out and buy the weapon at the shops.[QUOTE="Khadaj32"][QUOTE="email2003"]Bottom line is this, is XIII doing the ame as X did as in linear cause if it is then I pretty much enjoyed it like that. A lot of weapons you could just buy as normal, but for the good stuff you go through the bazaar, or find in random coffers throughtout the world.
