Hello,
I have the old "fat" PS3 (80GB 2USB's) and it is still holding strong with over 4 years in it. However, if it were to get YLOD, how long will Sony still be reparing/replacing these PS3's? I assume I would get a refurbished one for $150.

Your warranty is probably expired.
I'd just buy a new ps3 slim if it ever YLOD. You can keep your old HDD and put it in the new ps3.....I think anyway.
I am wondering the same thing because my fat ps3 just died. I like the fact it has the card readers and extra usbs. As for putting your old hard drive in a new ps3 that wont work. The new ps3 would wipe the hard drive clean. This happens with all ps3s. I had the metal gear ps3, it had a card reader and 4 usbs
Depends how far you're from replacement/repair store.
They won't charge you shipping (In NA) but the cost is 150$. It takes between 1-2 weeks for the replacement. If you're under warranty, of course there is no charge.
I strongly suggest you purchase the 2 year warranty from PSN. Even if your 'fat' PS3 isn't replaceable they will give you brand new one (250 or 320 GB) versions.
