they have said they want a "10 year lifecycle" for their consoles, but I suppose it's 2 or at most, 3 years until the next one comes out.

2 to 3 years until we see a new PSP I believe, but keep in mind the new one will most likely be backwards compatible. 2 or 3 years is a long time, go ahead and buy a PSP. Build up a solid collection of games that you'll be able to play now on PSP and most likely many years to come on the PSP2.

It's not going to be tomorrow, so just bite the bullet and buy one ;P

Seriously, I can't see them replacing it any time soon- at least, not with something that isn't backwards-compatible. Look at all the amazing TBA games in limbo right now! Why would they release a new PSP while everyone is waiting for these new games?

honestly, the psp is pretty future proof.

the only motivation for Sony to make a better psp2 is if nintendo brings more harsh competition, and right now, the psp trumps the ds in features. sure the ds has more kiddie games, but little kids don't have the $$ to compusively buy games like teenagers and adults :P

so right now, sony doesn't need to make another psp unless the ds really starts stealing the show. right now, the psp is perfect for real gamers, and the ds is perfect for little kids and grandparents. so nintendo and sony have the entire consumer spectrum more or less covered.

besides, u can always sell your psp when the new one comes out or u hear solid news about a psp2. the price difference pays for all the times u've played your psp now. it's worth it to me.

lol yea it's stealing the show not because it's technically superior to the psp hardware, but it has more kids and non-serious games, so it takes care of 2 ends of the spectrum while the psp does 1 really well, and is ok on the kids games.

so if anything, sony will put off making a new psp until more developers make games for the psp

sony and nintendo make most of the money off of selling games instead of selling consoles, which means the group that is more likely to compulsively buy games will generate the most income. right now, it's probably the same for both systems. ds has more buyers, but each buyer buys less games. look at a lot of the psp owners here, and they have at least 5 to 10 games for it.

so will it last? i don't know. but i do know that the ds isn't going to kick the psp off the market

Id expect new handhelds from both companies by 2013-2014. You have plenty of time. Enjoy all the beautiful music.

sine its a 10 year life cycle doesn't mean a new PSP won't be release in 10 years. They're doing the same thing like the ps2 how its still has its life cycle while the ps3 is out.

So it might be in 2-3 years idk. and they will probably still release psp games while they release psp2 games.

It will last me a while, I'm just discovering some older games that kick but.
As long as I have something new to play, I'll be happy.

Well, the PSP is nearing it's down cycle. It's good days are behind it. There hasn't been any good games on PSP released for a while. Just watch E3 '08. I don't believe that there was any good games released for PSP.

Man...if both companies are smart it would be a while...Like its funny the arguements we used to get back in the day PSP vs DS. But to me both systems are almost the same NOW, I am learning how to do new stuff with the PSP all the time. I heard it has a phone device and GPS...I havent figured out how to do those 2 yet, but the PSP is very handy. Plus it a lot of new games coming soon so....
