Not sure. I dont hear mine thow. But I know some do. And I lay mine sideways even. Some say thats bad. One reason I dont hear mine is my air conditioner makes some noise, thus it overrides the PS3 easy. I think everyone has system breakage Anixity "spelling?" some. I had it bad last Gen when all 3, "PS2, Cube and Xbox" all went down!!! No bs. But I got a slim, and had the other 2 fixed, and never had a problem after. But I had the Anxiety that something was going to happen for a while. Then eventually that went away. Im not sure how you get over that. I just sorta did, I figure if it breaks it breaks, I send it in, So what? Cant worry about it all the time.

Plus I have tuns of music stuff. Alot of it digital. And stuff will go down hear and their. My car is in for a few minor things now. I put a lot into that. So I just think I realized that sometimes things happen. But for the most part the PS3 has a good record so far.

The PS3 has 3 fan speeds. It goes a level faster each time the temperature gets a ways hotter. The fans are extremelyloud when if you put it in a place with no or poor ventilation. I accidentally did this and it got very very loud.

After 3 months on tour with me in Iraq with temps in the command tent reaching 130 deg you have nothing to worry about. Oh, did I mention all the sand, trips in a backpack, and countless evacks leaving my PS3 stranded for up to 6 hours running alone?

The PS3 will last long time without over heating and it sends up a warning 30 minutes before it would over heat and Shut it self down if you don't turn it off so I wouldn't get to panic about it the PS3 can go for three days straight i think and if you what go buy a Fan but They make alot of noise.

I never even notice my fan even when I use it for extended periods of time. There really is nothing to worry about.

yea i know the ps3 is well made and probibly wont break on me i just hate the thought of it breaking. i guess its because its new and 1 of the most expensive things i have bought i guess once i have had it a year or so i wont be too bothered.

if the ps3 is anythinbg like the ps2 then ill stop worrying, i put my ps2 into a wooden box and covered the vents on my ps2 so it would break and i would have a good reason to get a ps3 but after a couple of hours the ps2 was still running fine

That's cruel. *shakes head* Just kidding. I have to put my head next to mine to hear the fan. I ran it for 12 hours and it never gave me a problem.

i've had mine since launch (11-17-06) and it isn't loud at all and hasn't gotten too hot at all. i have it vertically set up on the side of my tv/entertainment stand. i know a few people that put it in a cabinet under their tv and it got pretty hot. you gotta give it room to breathe baby

I can hear it when the sound on a game stops, or when there is a really quite part in a movie, but its no where near as noticable as the "other console"

I never heard it, and when I upgraded a to a 7200 RPM hard drive I thought the extra speed might cause more heat, I was dead wrong, never really gets hot enough for me to worry. Just keep it in a open space and if you can stand it on its side because that can help give it a better airflow. Your PS3 is not likely to ever get 'too hot' so don't fret.

I've never noticed the fan,I've only had my PS3 a couple of weeks and am surprised at how quiet it is compared to some other consoles.
