How many PS3 games support 1080i?

Okay so about a week ago I was set to buy a PS3. this was until I did some searches and realized that during the PS3 launch no games supported 1080i andall games which did not support 1080i will never upscale to 1080i but will always downscale to 480p and that no update is going to make it upconvert to 1080i. Okay I thought that sony would require all future games to support 1080i (like whatMicrosoftdoes) and I hear many of thenewergames still do not support 1080i still. I checked a few (Heavenly Sword, Folklore) and they do not support 1080i. Many of the games that support 1080i are multi-plats (And I already own a X360). How is sony planning on making all future games support 1080i? If they do not will many companiesreleasegames in 1080i as well as 720p? How about games like MGS4, GT:5, Final Fantasy, GT: 5? Will those games support 1080i?

cod4, r6v, virtua tennis, and i think some other ones. there will be a lot of games with 1080i support in the future, but i know i'll still play them on 1080i, becasue they are all native to 720p as ofright now for both systems. don't know about you but all games look better on 720p to me. 1080p, now that's different story.

and all of those SCE titles you mentioned look fantastic on 720p, btw KZ2 will also be 720p. if you want to know why 720p is better for games than 1080i just google it, i didn't belive it either, but there's a difference. my cod4 looks way better on 720

My does not support 720p (It downscales it to 480p). It's one of those older crt which support 480i,480p, and 1080i.This is why 1080i is a very big deal for me.

Upscaling is the worst thing you can do for a game graphicly. Just stop complaining and run it at the native resolution (almost always the highest resolution the game is listed at for PS3). That's one things I hate about my 360, every single game is auto upscaled and usually looks like crap in 1080p because of that.

I used to have the same problem with an old projection HDTV that only had 480i/480p and 1080i. Even if I only checked the 1080i box, the games would still down convert to 480p. The only games that will do 1080i are the 1080p games because the PS3 will only down convert, not up convert. This is due to the lack of a scaling chip like the 360 has. Since the PS3 can only go down in resolution, the 1080p games are your only choice for 1080i.

Although it is best to play in the native resolution of the game, sometimes that's not an option with these TV's.

most ps3 games dont support 1080 which to me is truly frustrating. its unbelievabley stupid on sonys behalf not to upgrade the resolution on these games cause your missimg out on 360 vertical lines on a 720 title compared to 1080- thats half! i run my consoles through a hd projector and there is no comparison between 1080i and 720p.720 is a **** resolution full of jaggies (especially when your screen is 5m wide) sure theres better frame rate at 720p but it looks like crap. on normal high def tv the difference is minimal but on my display the difference between saygears of war at 1080 and uncharted at 720 is jawdropping. the fact is all games on ps3 should run at 1080 but sony just chooses not to, i mean the console is capable of doing it so why dont they. its loke saying "we built this new supercar, it has 1000 hp, can do 0-100 in 3 secs and has a top spees of 400 kph! oh and it looks like toyota crown."
