i say go to best buy and go get a 27" hdtv with hdmi that does 720p and 1080i for around 600 bucks its would be great for a room, personally iam saving up for a larger 1080p hdtv because of blu-ray and future 1080p games but 720p should be just as good if you aren't looking to spend a lot, trust be best buy has some good deals.

id spend about $1000 dollars on a good HD t.v but you can get them at almost any price range, i have a 70" SXRD XBR2 and omg its amazing for games and if you want to see how good blu ray is watch it on a 70" 1080p t.v with HD cables and a good quality blu ray movie, but i wouldnt get this t.v it retails for like 7500 but we got it for like 3900 because some friend owns the place

If your old enough get the stores credit card and get a 3 year no interest plan, I got a 56 inch DLP 1080p Samsung.  It was like 2,000 with free 2 year warranty and bulb change.  I pay like 35$ a month and will have it payed off before they can charge be interest.

IF your going with anything lest then 45 inch get a LCD or next DLP, last Plasma.  Also the TV should have atleast 2 HDMI ports.  For your PS3 and a Cable box.

If that is the case, it wouldn't be a bad idea to by an audio receiver with HDMI input/outputs.

EDIT: audio receiver also known as an amp.

The lcd that I'm looking at right now has only one. It looks decent and has okay reviews and is of course cheap. That's all I can afford:)
