If Sony released a Haze & Lair bundle that came with a backwards compatible PS3 of 80 GB, would you buy it?

Or would you buy the Killzone & MGS4 80 GB bundle with no backwards compatability?

Let's pretend you don't have a PS3 at all and your PS2 is broken.

I'd buy the Haze & LAIR bundle so I wouldn't have to buy a PS2. I also plan on trying those two games.

I would buy the Haze and Lair bundle and then resell those horrible games. (Either that or burn them at the stake)

I'd absolutely buy the Haze and Lair bundle. I actually want to play those games. Also add in the fact BC is very important to me. I guess I wouldn't mind trying out MGS4, but I have no interest in KZ2 at all.

By trivial association of assumed "bad games"?

I wouldn't care about the games. You can easily get rid of those and put the money/credit towards a game you actually want. Bad games or not, if you don't want them, you don't want them. I wouldn't want Killzone 2 all the same.

It's about being smart Mr. Black. Loop holes my friend, loop holes....

Hey, I'm just curious because I know how the general populous feels about Haze & Lair. Frankly, I don't mind either of the games, and I'd buy the Haze & Lair bundle hands down because of my vast PS2 library, but I didn't think that option would be this popular.

I figured too many people love KZ2 and MGS4 way too much to make a smart consumer decision.

...oops, did I say that?

In these terms, a better question would be..

Would you get a PS3 with B/C, and it was the exact amount of money you have to spend. But only be stuck playing demos and your PS2 games for a month (give or take)

Or wait (about the same amount of time) to save $30 more to get the MGS4 and KZ2 bundle?

Lair and Haze aren't sacrifices

I havn't played Lair but Haze is not a completely horrible game IMO. I think the nector buzz and the actions and speech of the troops are really misunderstood (if you've ever known someone to completely change personalities or be really cocky when drunk then you'll know what I'm talking about). 4 player co-op was pretty cool and online was better than some games with online tacked on IMO.

Hardware BC or nothing. Sony's software BC, even when it can be updated via firmware, is still buggy as all get out. And it can't cost them more than $5 worth of solder and chip to put the proper stuff on the PCB anymore.

Have you actually tried? Especially with recent firmware updates? Many of the games I've tried from my PS1 and PS2 library on the ps3 look far better now than they ever did on the actual PS2, even when I used the same component video cable on both consoles. Now, even moreso that I can give my ps3 an HDMI connection. About the one thing I'd wish I could do now is to be able to rip ps1/2 games onto the ps3's hard drive and play them HDloader style. I got spoiled as hell with that on my old fatty ps2.

I'd get the Kz2 MGS4, for the sole reason that I never play my PS2 games anymore. I may as well buy my system with 2 games that I'll enjoy (well, kind of(KZ2)). If my Ps3 were to break again I would have no problem buying an 80Gb or one that doesn't have BC. I still have my PS2 in my room and it works perfectly (it did when I turned it on back in November, hasn't been on since)

if that's the case, then the BC option is going to play a major factor... (i voted the MGS4/KZ2 bundle, didn't read this first... my bad.) anyway... i think i'll give in with the Lair and Haze with BC coz i can easily get the MGS4 and Killzone 2, but not the BC... and there are also a lot of aweome PS2 games that are still very much playable today like God of War 1 & 2, MGS 2 & 3 / The Essential collection, Onimusha games, Dynasty Warriors, Dynasty Tactics 2, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi, Red Dead Revolver, WWE games (which i find better looking than the newer versions in the PS3), Persona games, Ace Combat, Tekken, Black, etc...

BC is everything to me. I currently have a 60GB, but if it broke, I wouldnt buy a new PS3 without BC. I love all my PS2 RPGs, and while I do not play them often anymore, I like having the option on my PS3. I sold my PS2 a long time ago, and like not having the clutter of another system in my setup. Also, I am a big fan of PS3 wireless controllers. Sure you can get some for the PS2, but they are not the same....

In regards to the packed in games in the question, I have seen MGS4 cheaper lately at stores like GameStop, so even if I hated Haze and all, I would not base that decision on the games. There is plenty to play, and wait for the good games to get cheap in the meantime. As someone else on here said, it is easier to buy the games later. If you buy a non-BC system, you cant upgrade it later...

Definitely the Haze and Lair BC model. I have 2 80 gb MGS4 bundles. I love playing PS2 games which I never had a chance to play since I just got back into video games since being on hiatus since Sega Genesis days. I guess dating a beautiful early 20's year old girl(as she recommended I get a system)can do it. Funny think I love the games more than her now(at least they don't talk back to me).LOL.

Obviously you know how computer chips are manufactured and their costs.ryokinshin6x3
We're talking about a (now) ten-year-old chipset. Unless you're trying to tell me that Sony never upgraded their manufacturing capability to use cheaper, more efficient manufacturing processes to make the EE+GS chips for the PS2, there is no way it can cost them as much to make these chips as it did back when the PS2 first came to the market. Especially now when they have dropped the price of the PStwo to $100. They would not charge $100 for a console that old if it costs them that much to make still. And yes, Hardware BC still did get improved by the firmware updates, too. Remember how there were over 200+ games that flat out didn't work on the hardware BC ps3's? And even more that were otherwise glitched with problems? How else do you think they were able to fix that since the 1.0 firmware release? Even though it is hardware that is ultimately processing it, the ps3's software is still adding its own touches, or otherwise processing things before the EE/GS chips do it - or at least the graphics part of the PS2, because the majority of the games that were fixed were because of glitches of a graphical nature.

Sorry, when you hardware BC, it's running off PS2 hardware. So there is no difference. People that would rather get bad games and play old games instead of good new ones. Nice to know the mentality in the forums. No BC? Keep your old system to play your old stuff if you want. Obviously new games "aren't good enough" for you.....lmao.

ryokinshin6x3
Except there haven't been too many good new ones on the ps3. And since I've got the other consoles too, that means that I can choose the "best version" of a multiplat game. And well, most of those games turn out better on the 360. And there are plenty of games to get on the Wii. So that doesn't leave a whole lot of games that interest me for the ps3 recently, and/or not enough $$ to go get a game on the ps3 just because it's new. And being able to play many of them on demo, a lot of these games that ps3 fanboys will try to say are good, just... aren't that good to warrant me spending $60+tax for them. Also, as to "why not just use your ps2 instead", I'd said one reason already - ps1/2 games on the ps3 look better than when ran on the ps2 itself - especially now that I have the ps3 on HDMI. Secondly, Sony products have legendary unreliability to me. Technically, I am on my 3rd PS2, and my fourth ps3 right now. Sony stopped manufacturing the original, fatty PS2's, which is terrible because fatty PS2's had hardware BC for PS1 games. I also use HDLoader on my fatty PS2, so that means the slim PStwo is out of the question.

I would go for the BC PS3. I want the one with the four USB slots and with the chrome finish next to the PS logo. As for Lair and Haze, i can always sell it, even tho I will probably barely get 5 or 10 bucks for the two games together.

I'd take Backwards compatibility over pretty much anything, even if it wasn't bundled with any games.
