How much longer do you think the life cycle of the PSP is going to be?
I personally have no idea and am wondering what other people think.

yeah im not very happy with the games on the psp at the moment and looking down the road there aren't that many good ones either. I mean sure i love GTA Vice City and the EA sports games but other than that there just are not any good games. Don't even think about naming any shooters either because the psp is horrible with fps, the auto lock only works in very few games and is very frustrating at times even in GTA. SO to answer the question after my rant, i am hoping not very long so Sony is forced to make something better. bigmick07
I acutally think there are many great games for the psp, and there are more coming out down the track. While FPS might no work, shooters such as Syphon Filter and Metal Gear SOlid play great on the PSP. There are also many good racing games.
I think the lifecycle of the PSP is going to be about another 2-3 years. Keep in mind that it has only been out for 2 years, a relatively short amount of time for a console, even a handheld. What I believe Sony will do with the PSP is use it as the natural extension of the PS2 hardware. The two are relatively similar with respect to hardware; with the PS2 slowly being phased out and replaced by the PS3, developers that are not ready to make the jump will design games for the PSP. The incentive is there as there are millions of PSP users worldwide. It is a shame that many, if not most of them, use custom firmware editions, but I believe that if good games are made, people will buy them. I expect God of War: Chains of Olympus to be a guaranteed platinum seller.
The key for PSP developers is to develop good HANDHELD games. Not consoles games that are ported to the handheld system. The games are getting better, but it is important that developer learn how to make good handheld games first. That way, once the hardware is upgraded, as it inevitably will be, they will have PSP exclusives titles and franchsies that will sell.
I fully expect Sony's next handheld to have a native 720p resolution with at least 256MB of RAM. I also expect THAT version of the PSP to come around in the next 3 years. By that time, the PS3 will be well established, the PSP will have become a legitimate handheld competitor to the Nintendo, and Sony's online service will be well polished.
That of course is a not a fully realized dream though. First developers must continue to create compelling games on the PSP to ensure that there is a successor to the throne.
When the PS2 will be A LITTLE outdated already. That would be when the PS3 will have so MANY awesome games.and that would be like 2015 - 2025. Just saying.
To put it in an easier way,as long as the PS2 will still be awesome.
Many years. IMO it's the best handheld out now and nothing even comes close. Sorry, I think the DS is neat but I'd never buy one. Many gamers such as myself are now just buying a PSP, and there's a huge growing library of games available, with several different genres to choose from. Even if a new, more powerful handheld came out now, it wouldn't have the games to back it up, and it would be expensive. The PSP now is a great powerful and versatile system, has tons of games and sells for an excellent price. It's hard to beat. at the moment.
In another year I'm sure Sony will release a revamped PSP. (PSP Lite if you will.) It will prob be cheaper (150) and revamp interest in Sony's hand held.
