Okay so today I finally received my "perfect" Vita after SIX (!) exchanges. Either I got extremely unlucky or the quality control at Sony is somewhat lackluster. I love the Vita and I think it's one, if not THE best handheld ever made, but this really bothered me...

I think last month I posted here already that I got the "perfect" vita after an exchange but after only a few hours I found five dead subpixels and once seen you will NEVER make it unseen.

Anyway, here are the details to my Vita marathon..

  1. Vita had barely any blotches but a dead pixel in the middle.
  2. Vita had less blotches, better blacks but 5 dead subpixels in the middle on red and green, frequent crashes and a squeeky left trigger.
  3. Vita had a horrible screen, it had a 2cm thick grey line on the left that could be seen even in a fully lit room, squeeky left trigger.
  4. Vita had a nearly perfect display almost no blotches very good blacks but ALL buttons where squeeking like hell.
  5. Vita had a huge V shaped blotch that could be seen on every dark colour and of course a squeeky left trigger.
  6. Vita pretty good overall no squeeky trigger, but 2 dead pixels in the middle.
  7. Vita very nice screen with minor blotches, very good blacks only slightly squeeky left trigger. This one is a keeper!

I am picky with my gadgets I admit. but I'm telling you all of the Vitas I had before the one I have now were not acceptable. It's kinda sad to see this HUGE quality differences in the same product. I hope they will be able to fix all those issues for the next revision.

How about you guys, how many times did you exchange and how is the quality of your Vita?

Wow, 6 times...But i would have probably done the same if i had a vita. My first ds lite had a faulty microphone, the second one had a red/blue pixel on the screen, and i think the 3rd one was OK.

Still have the first one I bought, although going against my own personal thoughts I actually bought a warranty from the store as my PSP wasn't exactly the sturdiest piece of hardware around and with its touchscreens I don't have a whole lot of hope of my Vita lasting more than a year or two...provided I actually start using it, at least.

Once. The one I originally got had a broken right analog stick. I returned it, and got a working one.

actually got lucky for once with mine. i just returned mine to target over the weekend because the left trigget only worked 75% of the time(about a week before the warranty expired). the associate gave me a gift card so i could go back and buy another one. just so happens if you buy one this week you get unit 13 and a memory card for free. so i made out for once.

My Vita works perfectly, but I do notice when the screen goes completely black they're different shades of black almost like a design. Its not a problem for me at all because i never see it until the screen goes black but it make me wonder could this be a result of me dropping it so many times. I believe I dropped it 3 times in the first 2 days I had it.

I have never exchanged my PSvita. There was no defects in my Feb 15th 2012. First editon bundle with the Pack game Little devients and 4GB memory card and Case.

Sorry to hear that yours had dead pixels. Back in 2005 I had a PSP 1000 that had dead pixels. Sony is doing better these days. Back then Sony stated you were SOL if you system had dead pixels.

0 times, 0 tech issues with PSvita.

I dropped mine in a parking lot. It was in the sony travel case (which isn't really that protective) and fell. out of my pocket. I was so upset but nothing happened to it.

Same here, it's pretty stupid that it can get out of the poket if it falls sidewise. I do have some small holes on the side but it works perfectly fine. Funny story btw: It just fell out because the thing that you can put around your arm went around another item I wanted to take out, but it never once fell down while playing, so this thing that's there to protect my Vita from falling caused it to fall xD
