heyy, im currently creating a documentary about the above topic ^^^ and was wondering if anyone would like to talk about how they believe video games have changed or are seen to the public nowadays compared to say 10 years ago?

including content (story,Violence,Music, voice acting, talent,) etc. also if they are more immersive and reasons for this?

sales? do you believe video games have overtaken dvd, cinema and music sales ?

do you have family or girlfriends that wouldnt of touched video games years ago but now play? and reasons for this change?

your input would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks, Sean

Well I think consoles like the wii and ds have made games much more 'family friendly' and people who would never gave video games a second thought are now playing them on a regular basis, for example my nan has a wii. Also I think games have become much more social, particularly with online multiplayer, due to games like call of duty but also the development of mmorpg games. As well as this game adverisments have increased drastically over the recent years; as far as it being bigger buisness than the film industry, im not sure, but there must be some figures somewhere

Videogames have gone from being the nerdy geeky thing to a fully fledged tour de force. People now realise that videogames are like movies. They get the same treatment and big budgets now as movies. They take in enormous revenue these days. They have come lightyears lately.

Video games are definitely viewed differently to what they once were. Back then video games were mainly played by the nerd and geeky type (just like you've said). Nowadays it can be the whole family.

As for the day and age we live in, the "Video Game" industry has definitely considered every audience when developing a game/console. You have something for everyone, whether that be a family, kids or adult game you will definitely find something to suit your needs.

That being said... games have also changed gore-wise, most game nowadays are extremely violent and feature some sort of decapitations. This does make parents much more strict as to what they allow their children to play. And they have every right for that.

Game are also becoming VERY realistic in terms of gameplay and graphics, you compare games back then and how they are now, and you'll be shocked as to how real they have become. Things like Facial details, body movements and physics have all been improved and are done just like real life.

The sales for consoles and video games are also shooting up as the generations go on, which is good to see.

Not sure if all this helps bro, but just my two-cents :P

I'd say that depends on the age group of thepeople you're dealing with from my experience. My parents and mother-in-law still see them as complete wastes of time and thencan talk about American Idol and Dancing with the Stars for hours, which I will never understand. For the most part, the older the person is, the less respect they have for them as entertainment. Of course there are plenty of exceptions for this, but this is from my personal experience with people I actually know.On the other-hand, I've found thatpeople in my age group (21-25)that would have been making fun of, or did make fun of,video games 15 years ago now embrace them and can enjoy them just as much I still do. I've also noticed that in the last few years a lot more women my age have admitted to really enjoying some games (whether they are Mario Kart,LBP or Lego to Halo and COD). ButI don't know if that's because there are now more games that can cater to their interests or ifit's just because video games have become more mainstream and more acceptable to society that they are willing to admit it when they weren't before.
