I want to buy a ps3 but i am scared that is will break on me. I had an Xbox 360 2 years ago, was happy with it but it rrod. Since then I have a Wii and have more than 20 games for it but im not happy with. I dont really have fun with it. So i been seeing that there are amazing games for the ps3 like infamous, uncharted 2,and upcoming God of war III and these games made want to buy a ps3 slim. So i would like to know how reliable is it since i dont want to spend $300 just for it break on me.

The PS3 is pretty reliable i believe. I've had my PS3 for about 3 years before it died on me (this was a couple weeks ago, Its on its way back from being repaired) and that was the original launch 60 gig model. I'm sure the newer systems are less likely to break down with its newer parts and all. Get a PS3, I don't think you need to worry about it failing on you.

The only PS3s that seem to suffer the dreaded YLOD (Yellow Light of Doom) are the launched models (the 60 giggers in particular). The Fats and newly released Slims since then are fine.

So, yes it is very reliable. Do yourself a favor and pick one up. All the games you listed are excellent titles (Uncharted 2 is currently sitting as my favorite game OF ALL TIME). It has my favorite library out of the 3 consoles exclusive-wise, plus all of the great third party games it shares with the 360. Besides, how can you argue with free online gaming?

EDIT: If you do get a PS3 and, as you said, wanna get Uncharted 2, pick up the first game and play it first. It's a great game and will prepare you for what's in store for the second one. You'll get to enjoy the same leap we all are from the first game to the second and know the characters. Plus, it's only $30 now.

I know the latest phat PS3 has very, VERY little chances of breaking down unless you abuse it (like storing it in a tight place). The new Slim has been out for very long. I've heard it gets really warm but I've never heard of a Slim overheating or breaking down.

Do not get a refurbished 60GB or 80GB. Those are the ones that are getting YLOD these days.

So i guess it is safe to say it is reliable thanks guys. Also i notice that some multiplatform games have some trouble on the ps3 than the 360 such as Assassins Creed and GTA4. Does it make these game almost unplayable?

A while back there were very minor differences, like lighting and frame rates, but with today's multi-platform games you won't notice a difference.

no not at all...and like you said your buying it for the exclusive content that is vastly superior to the 360 original content

i own a 60gb model and so does most of my psn friends and some college friends i have, the YLOD is like the RROD it will happen to all ps3s regardless of its model, it doesnt have a specific model taht the YLOD targets, but i just want to point out NOT ALL 60gb and its not 60gb models only that get the YLOD. besides its how u going to take care of it, give it room to breath, feed it disks once in a while, its like havin a dog, but sexier and doesnt poop or pees all over the hosue lol

my 40 gb model died on me as well, lucikly for me it is still under warranty, however i gave the refurbished one sent from sony to my brother and bought a slim one... everything eventually breaks down, it s just a matter of how much one uses it, nevertheless the ps3 is nowhere near the reliability of my old ps2 in my case...

My new 80GB Fat has a weird Loading Problem. (Many others have that prob too) It won't load disks until I reinsert the Disk a couple of times (or let it warm up for about 10 minutes) I hope it's the firmware.. creepy

My 60 gig has been going strong from day one. For just about the whole time I have had the console it's been on 24/7 without a single problem.

The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 die for the same reasons but the latter is more durable than the former.

I have both AC and GTA4 on PS3 and they are more than just playable, they look great! AC suffers because it becomes very repetative, thats the game though, so you'll find that on each system.

At Best Buy they do. I think I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-70 for 3 years full coverage. Anything goes wrong, they straight up replace it.

Sounds good...That will give me a little peace of mind when I buy in a few months.

I have 3 PS3s. I have 60GB launch, and 80 GB (with BC) and a PS3 Slim. All systems have been perfectly working since I have owned them. I have run them hard, and sometimes for 8 to 10 hours straight while playing Call of Duty 4. About a year ago I gave my 80 GB to my wife, and she plays Fallout 3 constantly she has over 250 hours clocked in.

The PS3 is highly reliable, they all have a less than 10% failure rate. The new slim, uses less power, doesnt get as hot, loads games a bit faster, and it has a fan that is dead quiet. I highly recommend you get one. You wont regret it.

the only games that xbox multiplatform games are better is say cod 3 and fallout 3.

i have both systems and i must say the ps3 will deffiantly be the console you will want to get when it comes to pure gaming. it doesnt have any of the casual bs 360 will have. ps3 is also alot cheaper when it comes to online, built in wireless internet adapter, built in rechargable controllers. it also have blu ray if you are intrested in movie watching but to me blu ray isnt a big deal

It is very reliable, most freezing happens in the web browser but that should be fixed in the next firmware, YLOD wont happen on a brand new console so fast anyway.

No problems with my PS3 here, other than a couple of instances where it mysteriously switched itself off spontaneously (though I suspect it had something to do with my GSM/3G Cellphone which I left on top of the PS3 for a period of time - that problem never happened again after I moved the said cellphone away from the PS3).

I was really happy with mine, I had it for almost two years... hardly any issues. then last week. red blinking light and it won't turn on. I have the 80gb Motorstorm one. I still think they are pretty reliable, I just have bad luck. I kept great care of mine and it was left in a open area for the whole time. But who knows. anyway all i can say is with anything that has data on it. back it up and back it up often. Biggest piece of mind you can have.
