Don't you think it would've been a better idea for Sony to put the PS3 off until about now? The PS2 still has life in it (I actually play it more than all the new consoles) and they would've had more time to secure exclusives and work on Home, which has lost pretty much all its impact by now. Plus the graphics would've surpassed what the 360 is capable of. It just seems like Sony made all the wrong moves with the PS3.
no, all sony had to do to win this generation was focus on what made them great in the first place......the games. this is why microsoft is surpassing sony in the current generation, they know most people don't buy a video game console based on its extra multimedia capability, they buy a video game console to play videogames.

Actually, prior to the PS3 there was no console with so much multimedia capability. and, in fact, some people bought a ps3 for the blu-ray function. But you're right about the gaming focus portion.
If they had held off until now, all it would mean is that they would have allowed Nintendo and Microsoft to secure a foothold in the market as many people (especially casual gamers) would figure that there is no point waiting like 2-3 years for a PS3 when the Xbox 360/Wii is readily available.
It's simple. More games. Including not good ones. Microsoft simply did great job securing number of 3rd party developers, something Sony didn't bother to do. Even in their press conference they mentioned having quality over quantity, which led me to scream "You IDIOT!!!!" ALWAYS quantity beats quality. If it wasn't the case, Nintendo wouldn't have been this quiet past 2 generations. Sony just met with same failure Nintendo had after SNES. Not keeping the good relationship with 3rd party developers.

I seriously doubt many people bought a ps3 based on its blueray capability. im thinking most people bought a ps3 based on the diversity and quantity of games available for the ps2, expecting the ps3's library to be similar.

I think Sony is losing because of price, merchandise and releasing PS3 later than Microsoft the 360. 360 became so popular everywhere, ppl who don't know much about gaming think its the best console out there because... TV, anounces, cereal, radio, etc say so. And PS3... much ppl don't even have reasons but they just think is not a good choice
honeslty i have to say, bad ad campaigns, loss of exclusives, not willing to buy exclusives like microsoft, Sony should have paid off SE for ff13 like microsoft does to everyone
