How the hell do you grab people on Metal Gear Solid PO!?

Cause i sneak behind them holding the triangle button then press square only to push them or punch them

you have to hold the square and wait till you pull out a knife then press the square button a lot!

just sneak up to them and hold square and choke them by tapping square or interrogate them by pressing L.

A character needs to be at least an (A) rank in CQC before he/she can grab an opponent. I think it is (A) or better.
