I have a 60 gb ps3 that is working fine, but I'm getting a little paranoid from all the threads about the ps3 blu-ray drive failing. When I purchased it at gamestop in December 2006 I did not get any extended warranty. Since the ps3 is over a year old, Sony will not fix it for free if it breaks and I'm screwed. Can anybody tell me how to get an extended warranty for the ps3 through gamestop or any other reliable store?

If your warranty already expired, you cannot extend it.

I know for a fact that sony does not extend any warranties, but I heard that other companies do. I have seen posts of people who purchased warranties in other forums, I just want to know how to.

I've personally never heard of buying a warranty for something when the original warranty has already expired.

Think of it this way. Let's say your PS3 breaks, but your warranty expired. Do you really think they are going to let you buy a warranty now just so you can save money on the repair?

Alright so i'll just cough up the $150 for repair if my ps3 breaks. At least Sony gives a steady rate to the out-of-warranty PS3 owners. Thanks for the replies , and if anybody finds anything please post it here.

I live in the US but in the UK there is a thing called "continuous play" which is a warranty you pay for every month (like 5 pounds a month). Here is the url http://continuousplay.co.uk/

First of all all things wear out and break eventually. If you had bought a warranty from say Best Buy you can turn in your system before the warranty wears out they ask you if you want to get a new warranty

hah yeeaaahhh.....im just gonna do to the ps3 what i did to my ps2....pray that it cleans itself and just leave it there. Never did i clean my ps2 for hmm...8 years about? and its goin as strong as a horse still. the ps3 looks tough, i think it can take on the challenge.

Theres something in the playstation store that you can purchase for 59.99 or 49.99 with playstation plus, but im not sure if it does anything once your warranty expires, or if you have to add the 2 years it gives you before warranty expires. call sony and ask 1800-345-7669(USA#)

The blu-ray drive failing is the least of your worries, there are other more common causes that make the YLOD happen. If I could extend my warranty, I'd do it in a flash.

Yah becuase i took care of my launch 60GB and it died on me at the worst time, The only i know how to buy a warranty on a older system is when you buy stuff off ebay and use squaretrade, you could have someone with an ebay account basically sell you your ps3 for 50$ or something on ebay buy it and then you could get a warranty on it and if your friends the money issue should be easy to work out like pay but he gives it back to you whatever so you can get a warranty and a 3 year warranty is not very much check out there site
