just plug it in to your ps3 ethernet port. the router will deal with the rest. router automatically set the IP for your ps3. unless you're using a hub.

all you have to do is just connect the comcast modem to the ****** router with the ethernet cable and plug it in the wan port. Once you do that connect the ethernet cord from the ps3 to the router on the Lan ports.

If you have a router why are you trying to hook up internet to your PS3 with an ethernet cable? dahaka_1
Because there are two types of router, wireless and wired.

Some times you have to reset your router and modem. to do that you need to unplug the power cord from the modem and the router. wait at least 2minutes the first connect your modem. then coonet your router with it already conneted to you ps3. next you need to go into the systems menu an make sure you ps3 is connecting through the wired port. after all that you need to test it with your ps3. you should be good to go tho.

I'm somewhat confused by what you are having difficulties with. Cat5e is Cat5e (or Cat6 if you're gigabit ^.^) - the cables work in all devices that use ethernet, that was the point in standardization. So what exactly is your problem?
