I assume you're worried about the cold warping the PS3. Well I can't say for sure what exactly happens to a PS3 in the cold weather but obviously the cold will have some sort of effect. I remember I had a tennis racquet in my trunk for a couple of hours and I played with it indoors afterwards. The racquet broke apart pretty much instantly.

The best thing I can say is you should just keep the PS3 up front with you, since I assume you're going to have the heat on in your car. To those who say just wrap it in a blanket/towel and place it in the trunk. Well a blanket doesn't work that way. Blankets trap the heat generated by the source(most commonly a person) and thus keep the source from getting cool. If there is no heat source in the blanket(I assume the PS3 is off) then a blanket will do nothing to stop the PS3 from getting cold.Â

lol it must have been freezing in your car! i just said to usea towel because its cushiony, totally disregarding the heat =]
i doubt bad stuff will happen to a ps3 if its in the trunk for five hours.. while the car is running.
Are you serious?farleybt
I don't know why, but after seeing everyone's sympathetic responses, this one made me laugh.
No, this is serious. It's winter not tropic climate, you must be careful of:

PS3 is precious, i'll treat it like uranium case. I'll even wear bio suit if i've one, hire armored truck and mercinaries

Says the one posting on a gaming website...
Wow.. he needs to go somewhere else with that.
You can play games and still have a life, and caring about a $500 piece of electronic equipment doesn't equate to not having one.

I would suggest to do nothing other than not leave it on the roof of your car. :) Wherever you are (the OP), I presume you are not in Japan where I think is the only place that makes PS3s. (Is this true?). Do you know how far those PS3s travelled to get to the store? Perhaps by cargo ship or the cargo hold of a plane where it is freezing. Then, they were trucked from the airport or port to the store and who knows how many distribution centres in between. I doubt any of them care enough to keep the PS3s warm. Perhaps they are packed well in crates, but the crates and the foam wrapping inside doesn't keep the hard disk head from moving. After all that, it is fine... Sorry, I mean "fine"; maybe that is the cause of the YLOD... :)
Â
As an aside, have any of you seen how luggage are loaded and unloaded from a plane; some staff at some airports literally throw them. Regardless of what I just said above, I would definitely take a PS3 as carry-on on a plane...

Pack it in ice ? It might work too.

He doesn't want it to get too cold, ice is notorious for being cold I hear.
do you still have the box it came in? If so put it in there..... you do realize that PS3s are transported in big unheated trucks in winter time for trips longer than 5hrs too right... There should not be a problem with you just putting it in the box and placing it in the trunk.Macri^The best advice, just put it in the box, the savest place to transport your PS3.
If i were you what i would do is, Stick my PS3 back into its original boxing and wrap the inside of the box up with something... like bubblewrap??... Or just even couple of towels but your in a car surely nothings going to happen to it lol not unless your car lets water in haha..

It will help offset the heated gas fumes which are notorious for killing electronics. It is science 101 really. Pack it in ice in an igloo , throw it in the trunk ... set it and forget it. If I am wrong on this , hate the educational system ... not the edumacated. Please Log In to post.
