span.

The infamous YLOD is causing me as much trouble as it possibly can right now and im sure it has done so for a lot of you guys also. I dont have any money to either do that repair temp or get a slim, let alone buying one and repairing the dead one which is what i need ideally. Bottom line is that im overly angry and aggrevated do to such let down towards fans that have been on theyr side since the existance of the PS. Does sony really read these forums or is there something out there that will actually make them take notice of what they have done to a lot of us?

Oh, also, what do you expect them to do? In the end, every electronic device has a chance to break, and some have 'lives' and the PS3's it turns out is just over 3 years for most people with a 60gb. If you come up with a cheap solution so SONY can help everyone, then I reckon SONY will give you a job. They can't fix every single PS3 because its only a temporary fix. They can't replace them because they'd lose millions of pounds most probably.

3 years is the breakeven with me for not really being upset about it. My first PS2 lasted 3 years of heavy use before the disc drive started to fail, and then the power supply crapped out as well. I took that opportunity to get a PS2 slim. I use my PS3 so many hours I wouldn't be that upset if it "only" lasted 3 years, I wouldn't be "pleased" but I would call 3 years the breakeven for being able to live with it. Less than that and I would be increasingly pissed off. I look at it like a laptop computer.I considered my old Dell "business class" Latitude a workhorse and it made it 6 years. But really it should have been replaced after about 3 or 4.

You really have no idea how little PS3's have YLOD'd.... if everyone who has a phat came here and posted threads "My phat still works!!!" then your measly little frustration rant would be completely drowned...

you make a good point but at the same time we have no way to actually transfer saves after our systems break

if sony isnt us allowing us to save to a usb etc... then we need to be able to have cloud based saves at the very least

My phat still works. Lol. Going on 4 years now with what I would say heavy use. Games, blu-rays, and pictures. I don't want the YLOD and so far my system doesn't show any signs, but if it does, I can't complain. I'm also prepared. I've saved up for a new one, as well as have a 250g external hard drive to back up on. I think if people prepared themselves, it would notbe such a disappointment when it does happen.

"The infamous YLOD is causing me as much trouble as it possibly can right now and im sure it has done so for a lot of you guys also" I think your confused buddy. RROD is datta-way ----> The YLOD affects about 3% of PS3 owners, not 50%. Also, here in the UK Sony has one of the best customer services around. I like em!

ok so some of you are saying "its ok" that it broke but thats bcuz ur unit its still intact and guess what just bcuz yours its fine doesnt mean anything. Learn how to read posts bfore replying im not saying they have to fix the broken unit, not at all,all i said is they should apologize and show remorse. And a 3 yrs life span its not acceptable for the price tag the system first had, if you think thats ok also then your just another fanboy who has crap for brains. Stop posting here if you have nothing relevant to say. Besides the number of PS and PS2 systems that have been victims of malfunction are far less than the PS3s record, i'm pretty sure most of them are still working properly. I would still buy a ps4 system and still buy every subsequent PS system that comes out in the future but that doesnt mean i will suck it up and not tell sony the **** **** have done to a lot of us

How come people are satisfied with the system lasting them 3 YEARS? its not a disposable console, its suppose to last many years atleast. I believe the YLOD is as rampant as the RROD . My 60 gb lasted the 2 yrs i knew it would. Who the HELL said it affects 3 percent? ITS ABOUT 30 MORE likely

dont be a lil justin bieber now man, u have all right to be angry. I made a thread saturday about YLOD also. My 60 gb rarely had any dust when they opened it. A teachnician fixed it 5 times, and then i got my 160gb PHAT which is now one year and 3 months old, and working fine. its the 60 gb that will die, and not because one didnt die within the average 2 yrs, mean that its OKAY.To be contradictory ,now that I make my own money, and i'm a game addict, i'll buy another one LOL!!

...you can ask a mod to lock it and they will. but also, all electronics fail eventually. the fail rate of the PS3 is pretty low. Here is an actual article http://www.ripten.com/2007/07/03/failure-rate-xbox-360-high-as-33-sony-ps3-less-than-1/

Where did you get that 50% from? Anyhow, EVERYTHING breaks. That's how it works. Maybe you wanted it to last like 2 decades or something? 3 years or so for this price tag is perfectly fine. Lots of 360s don't see their second year.

The thing is electronics fail! You cant expect everything to last forever. My ps3 was bought refurbished and has lasted me about 2 1/2 years and I game 2-3 hours a day at least and roughly 4 hours on days off. I have also used it for netflix and have left it on for hours while backing up the HDD. The speakers in my car have gone to crud but I dont complain to Toyota just because I spent 20k on it.

I bought my ps3 as a direct result of the rrod on 360. Compared to that, the PS3 is an ultra-reliable system.

I hear you TC. Iv had lots of problems with sony products as a whole as far as reliabilty goes. when i was selling/installing car audio i got to the point that i flat refused to sell/install sony CD players in peoples cars. i had so many people come back upset at ME that the CD players stoped working or would skip when going over bumps in the road. There amp's were not to great from my xp eather. there speakers were ok but still not what i would recommend to people. as far as game consoles my exp has been about the same. 2 ps1's dies on me,my ps2 dies 2 years in and my ps3 phat dies after about a year and a half "have a slim now" and before any one goes off halfcocked with the usual BS, yes i do take care of my systems. i keep them clean and in well vented areas.all failures were do to disk drives going belly up. to be fair most of my disk based consoles have been less than dependable. Game cube died fairly early and my wii which has seen light use is giveing me issues and yep its disk drive issues.Yet my PC which I built 6 years ago is still going strong even though it see's 10 hours daily use nearly every day and iv even left it running for days at the time downloading. Thats because i used all high end parts. most console makers use parts that come from the lowest bid were they ca to save money. this means that they are not nesasarly useing the best parts but the cheapest. As far as ME being happy that a consol that i paid 300 to 600$ on lasting 3 years? no. but i do like the games that sony has and the system's failure rate is lower from what iv read than some other products so there you go.

Mine had two separate hardware problems within 2 months (forcing me to buy a new one), but after 3 years, I was already pretty happy with the mileage I got out of it. Maybe if the PS3 wasn't so much damn fun and worth my money, I would have been a bit angrier.

dont mind them truck they just dont wanna believe there systems had a problem also. the fat ps3 break just as bad as the old 360s did just look over at the ps3 forum boards on the ps3 site there. then go look at the microsoft xbox360 forum same thing. Your choices are getting a slim ps3 as they fixed there problem. (I'm not talking about gamespots forums).

My original 60gig lasted a year and ten months. It wasn't the fact that it quit that pissed me off the most, it was the fact that Sony played dumb and stuck me with a $190 bill to replace their defective unit. Especially paying $750 beforehand and choosing to invest in this vs a gaming PC. The least Sony could've done was a free swap when the issue was no cause of my own. YLOD issues should be free regardless. Maybe with a policy like that, a better percentage would've been kept on record instead of forum poster "guesstimations" (as they say) and random article "statistics".

You can make up all the random numbers you want but it just makes you look bad. Really the worst thing someone can do is make up numbers that are clearly way off.

The YLOD issue is not something that effect all users. Maybe some people are unlucky but its not bad compared to the failure rate of the other system. Call Sony next time you have a issue that have great customer service.

I have a fat ps3 still working and a slim ps3. When my slim died I called Sony and they fixed it for FREE. It wasn't even under warrenty.

the voices are louder of those who complain of broken 60gb caonsoles as those whose still work are busy playing games and discussing what to buy next. I have posted before about my machine braking but I never joined in these discussions while it was working.
