Ok i just got my PS3 Slim, and everything has been working fine. But i downloaded a demo, Lost planet 2, and while loading the game it froze. I couldnt do anything. I tried holding down the PS button and nothing, then i tried a hard reset by holding down the power button on the Ps3, and still nothing, so i had to unplug the slim and plug it back again. Anyone know how to reset the ps3 slim incase it freezes? Seems like sony messed up removiing that power switch!

Holding the power button on the front (next to the eject button) doesn't turn it off like it does on the regular PS3?

Its basically a standby button, when you press it and "turn it off", the red indicator light stays on, then when you press it to turn it on it turns green. But it seems if it freezes it cannot be turned off by anything, except to unplug the system. SUCKS!

it should be just a case of holding down the power button till it goes off, its highly not recommended to switch it off at the back if it freezes sure to the possibility of the HDD saving and it corrupting by turning it off at the back. maybe give sony a call or email asking them

Ok I see your problem, when you hold in the red button. It turns it to stranby as you know. To turn it off properly, look at the back and there should be a larger black switch. Just give that a flick (As long as it is on stanby, DO NOT turn it off when the console is completely on I.E green light) And problem solved. But if it freezes just hold in the button until it beeps and goes to standby, then just start it up again.

Havent thought of this before. I have a fat PS3 but sometimes it cant be reset by holding down the front button. I have to use the back switch. Its very bad for the PS3 but theres no other option. But i dont think unplugging the PS3 Slim is worse than using the back switch on Fat. Its bad though.

If it keeps freezing during games then there might be something wrong. If its downloadable game then redownload it or format the HDD and you should be fine.

I've had my Slim lock up 3 different times on me like this. The ONLY way to turn it off is to unplug it. Damn you Sony for removing the power switch! :x

Yeah it was a bad decision. And what pisses me off even more about the whole situation, is the fact that its done this 3 times, and the console is LESS THAN 2 MONTHS OLD. My 60GB has frozen up only about once in 3 years btw.

Just out of curiosity - what firmware you have and what were you doing when it froze 3 times?
