Quick simple question. when you look at the game box is their anyway to tell which games need to install themselves on the hdd to play?

Oblivion for example puts 5 GB on the hdd, also bought GT5 Prologue yesterday boxed version and it installs 5.5GB on the hdd, after the auto update its 6GB. Makes you wonder whats the point of this game doing that.

If loads of games install to the hdd you wouldnt be able to play that many games!

If a game needs to install or buffer to the HDD it will say so on the box. Oblivion for example says HDD 5400MB minimum (Australian version). Devil May Cry 4 says Required hard disk space: At least 4.9 GB (North American version). It's the same for the rest of the games I have that force an install or buffer. Personally I like games to do this, I'd much prefer loading from my HDD than the optical drive.

The point is, those people who have a 40gb ps3 or even a 20gb ps3 wont be able to own many games, unless they upgrade the HDD themselves. i wish games gave you an option to install or not!

On my 40gb i have Oblivion & GT5 Prologue installed (Prologue still needs the cd to play even tho it installed 5 odd gb) and i have 19gb left.

Funny thing, the downloaded version of Prologue takes less space than the retail disc. If the downloaded version didn't have nonsensical DRM, it would have been the better version, by far.

You can swap the HDD out for a much much larger HDD at a very resonable price. I think a 350 gig SATA HDD is in the about the same price range as a 120 gig HDD for the other system. And these drives are getting bigger all the time.
