Yeah I have the 80GB Ps3 and I want to get the most of it graphics wise. So I went searching on the web for good LCD HTV's and I came Across the samsung brand on the walmart website and the tv looked great so I went to my local walmart and it was 798.00 and I was thinking about picking it up but then I saw a vizio 32'' lcd for only 594.00 and I dint know what the difference is between contrast ratios is but the vizio had 700:1 contrast ratio and the sammy had 5000:1 contrast ratio.so I was wondering which one would look better and if your nice post some pics to compare the two thanks.

The one with the highest contrast ratio. Forget about saving a few hundred dollars, as over the life of the set, it means very little.

the higher the better... but that's not the only reason samsung is superior to vizio... the viewing angle on my vizio (26" granted) is pretty low... gets a strong purple tint when you go to either side..

isnt it true that there is no set contrast ratio? so a ratio for one brand could be totally different from another brand. Like another brand could advertise 5000:1 while the other brand is 1000:1 but actually better? i just heard that around somewhere

There is some truth to your madness, although your specific example might be a little off...if someone cares enough to read then here's a good article concerning WTF is going on with contrast ratios in easy english.

I got a Samsung 26" LN-T2642H and it rocks. The color is superb and even at 3000:1, it looks great. Very good customizations from the menu. SD tv looks ok, but 1080i and 720p looks awesome.
