I'm asking this cause when i insert a disk into my PS3 the game goes to the inside rotating from the right to left and when i eject it the game comes out rotating from left to right. Is this normal with some PS3 because when i insert a game into my Wii it goes to the inside without rotating.

ok um i jus checked mine... and it doesnt rotate at all when entering the system however when ejecting it it spins a little... i think this is simply because of the spinning of the driver and it was probably still spinning when i opened it up... this reminds me of my psp when ejecting the umd...it would still be spinning... its nothing to worry about

mine doesnt spin at all, but the reverse spinning will just be the spindle locking and bouncing back to stop any damage to the motors, i wouldnt worry about it, its no different to the way the ps1 bounced back when you open the cover.

my friend's ps3's rotate disks going in and out. Same with mine. Looks as if the disk rotates clockwise and moves to the right side of the machine.

Perhaps it there are different models of disc drives?

My discs spin to the right coming out, and to the left going in. It happens on all types of discs, PS3 and PS2 games. My PS3 is just about 3 months old, it's an 80 gig model. Are the ones that don't spin older, or perhaps a different models all together?

i think mine rotates as well when is entering but i dont remember wich way i have to pay more attention.

to all the guys that are saying "another stupid thread" or something like that please be more thoughtful . Not everybody has the money to buy a 400$ or 500$ console when you are on a budget the most part of your life you just concer more about this pricey objects. I Understand why is he asking this kind of questions he is concerned about his PS3 just like me if anything happens to my PS3 im screwed because i Live in Bolivia and here you dont have free customer service or anything like it, you have to take your PS3 to a technician that he acclaims that has some sort of experience repairing PS3's. When you go back to the guy after 2 weeks he tells you that the PS3 is working properly when it doesn't and he isnt responsible for it so your more screwed that you were 2 weeks earlier.

OK, so i see where you guys are coming from, but really....It accepts disks, it plays, it ejects without hassle, who cares if it rotates. It's just the way it is, certainly not a "blue-ray" thing either. And no, Mummy and Daddy didn't buy mine. Also, if I have a problem with my PS3, the LAST thing i'd do is go on a place where people only care what other people think of their loungerooms and are rated by the amount of games that they own...

Its something to do with the 40GB PS3. My dad has a 40GB PS3 that rotates the disc when it goes in and when it comes out. I have a launch 60GB PS3 that does not rotate the disc at all.

I have 60 GB European version and I had NEVER encountered this. When I am ejecting disc I always exit the game and from XBM eject the disc. One I ejected the disc in game and it did not spin. Also when I am putting the disc in it does not rotate.

Maybe this rotating will scratch disc little bit.

Mine goes straight in and comes straight out. maybe when you eject your disc it doesn't stop spinning all the way and comes out rotating?

So I called Sony top help you and they said there ar 6 PS3 Blu-Ray drives. Each one is different. The 40 gb is the newest and it does spin some older models do too. My 20gb does not. Some 60gb do and 80 gb. You have the newer Drive. It is actually good because it you switch places like horizontal to vertical it won't scratch or that is what Sony said.
