first of all, look at its graphics, if you dont like it dont think of buying it but if you are ok with it, get ready to play the best SRPG that can be played forever... since you can level up until lvl9999 and customise your items endlessly, its replay value is unmatchable...

erm, RPG=/=SRPG...

anyway, I have Disgaea on the psp, it's very fun, but I just don't know if I'd be okay with the same graphics on my ps3...so I guess in the end it comes down to personal opinions on the graphics.

Gameplay to me matters the most. so it depends how many hows im going to get out of the game and to see myself enjoying it.

Graphics are important as well. story to me is the least important factor of the game i think.

Disgaea is all about gameplay, it's not an easy JRPG either. If you haven't played previous Disgaea games I strongly suggest you rent it first.

If you DO get into Disgaea gameplay you are up for many, many hours of good time. Disgaea 3 is the best title in the series, but if are not familiar with the game it might turn you off, you're easily looking into 70+ hours of gameplay without counting in ITEM worlds which offer even more game time.

I personally had over 90 hours in PSP version and still haven't explored and gathered everything.

It's a game for the fans of the series but it's definitely accessible to new comers if you're willing to learn.

yes it more for fans but you should probably rent this first i personally love it just put in about 4-5 hours today. Its a very long game it can easily take you 100+ hours to get everything but the story is about 20-30 hours depending on how you play it.

But is there any real need to lvl that high? Do you encounter lvl 9999 enemies in the game...?

its SRPG = Strategy RPG... and yes it can be played forever due to its limitless customization. i think you just cant comprehend what you read...

its for your satisfaction, i'm not sure but i think you can encounter max lvl2000 enemies

also, instead of reaching lvl9999, you can transmigrate after reaaching your top lvl ( lets say you reached lvl120 ) then start from lvl1 by transmigrating but you'll become more powerful with lower lvls this time. its seriously great game for its gameplay

Do you have to play the other Disgae games to comprehend this one?robbieeeeee

no because they are different stories... only thing they share is gameplay

Disgaea 3 is awesome, in my opinion. I just bought it a few days ago and it's the only game I've been playing. I wrote a review on it here, from the viewpoint of a newcomer to the series. My only previous SRPG experience is with Final Fantasy Tactics, but they do have a lot of similarities. It's just that Disgaea 3 has a ton more features than Tactics had. I mean, if you liked Tactics, Disgaea 3 is like a dream come true. I just don't think it's that inaccessible. In most other RPGs, you'd already be familiar with managing your character's equipment, keeping your low-HP magic users away from the frontlines... the common strategy elements. Disgaea 3 adds more elements, like combo attacks, being able to throw your teammates around (say one of them was about to die, you could have a character with full HP come up and toss the dying character back to a safe area), the geoblocks (awesome), and your monster characters can transform into weapons and be used temporarily by other characters. You can get really creative. And there's bonuses depending on how much you accomplish in a battle, you can win extra money and weapons and EXP. And the story is really entertaining, I think... it's actually funny... I still laugh about it.

But yeah, I'm glad I got it! And there are tutorials if you want... and help sections... it's not that hard to pick up. :)

After your initial playthrough through the story the main reason to continue playing is to pimp your characters for the sake of inflating your e-peeen to disproportional measures

The enemy AI is close to non-existant so dont expect this game to anywhere near as challenging as FF:tactics
What it does add is cutesy characters, humor and tons of gameplay features unseen in any other srpg

Save for the few story levels this game relies on random generated maps so dont think the end game content to be as fun as your initial playthrough, the customisation and level grind is the reward here.

More than in any other game i play time really flys when playing a Disgaea game so it certainly is doing something right.

I have ups and down with the game.

I don't like the new geo-blocks, and I don't like the new skill system.

I like other improvements though.

I think my main problem with the game is story. Sure, Disgaea was never really big about story and more about grinding, but first game had very charming storyline and characters. Disgaea 3 has more interesting story and more charming characters than Disgaea 2, but it is far behind from Disgaea 1.

Overall I'd say I'm more satisfied than 2nd Disgaea, but it still falls little short from my expectation.

the games alright, if you played the other games you'll notice a few things from the old ones. but it looks and plays the same as the ps2 bothers (whether this is good or bad is completely up to you). the game has changed one or two things such as the skill system that now requires mana to buy skills, not just by leveling up. the game also made getting higher class (like having a fighter go 75 or unlock destoryer. more than the other games.) but the thing that bothered me was the lack of extra maps that gave new items, characters, and better ways to level up. like the cave of ordels, this was prime for leveling in the last 2 games no where to see seen in the time i have played. recarnation has also been changed, instead of the 100 mana for any charcter recarnation, the game charged more for the higher classes, then charge the more for higher stats. the story is a bit shallow, yet funny. but don't let this mess with you enjoying a good game, this has its own charm. if you are going to make this your first disgaea then you may want to start with the disgaea 1 or 2. (which is coming to the DS on the 28 )
