You need a certain grade of dedication to love RoF. I'm a lover of JRPGs, innovative ones anyway and I like the innovations in RoF. Still I played the game only for 3 hours and it's collecting dust since then. The game is quite hard and the battles progress a bit too slow for my taste.
I love it and I think it's one of the best JRPGs for the PS3, got the plat in it which includes going 2 times through the game and fighting in the area ... a lot xD Wasn't a problem for me, I loved the battle system and the hexes were fun too :)

Great game with a steep learning curve (but really awesome battle system) and a lacking story. The story wasn't bad once it came together, but there just wasn't enough in the beginning to make it good. I loved it though, and despite its flaws I think it's a 9/10 game.

I'm a FF-Fan like you seem to be. And for me instant buy was a mistake.

What would you say it's worth? Instant buy or rent? It's a definite buy. Like Yoko said though, it's a little difficult in the beginning. If you do all of the tutorials though, you shouldn't have any problems. It's a great game
extremely great game with a great story fun game play original characters and funny dialog, the only downside is that it is really tough to learn how to play and even after you learn how to play it it is still really hard.
This user review partly sums up how I felt about the game well. And I didn't even get all that far. I was semi-hyped for the game, but that all went away. I read user reviews after starting chapter 6 or something, to see if it the game would get better or if it was gonna be the same. The dude had the same gripes as me, and says it goes on for the entire game more or less. So I ended up trading the game.
The annoying characters/dialog was probably the last straw for me
