But you really want it. Bad. How bad? Do you sell off your PS3 for it?

Or do you keep it around so you can still play PS3 games?

Now what if Sony offers their Gakai streaming service on the PS4 so that you can stream PS3 games?

Do you rebuy all the games you loved and come to accept that you can only play them when you have an internet connection?

Me, I'll just keep my PS3. Especially if the PS4 blocks used PS4 games, my money isn't going anywhere near that thing. Or PSN for that matter.

I'm not sure whether used games will be blocked or not.

But I'd bet anything there won't be backwards compatability between the PS3 and PS4.

It won't matter to me, I'll get a PS4 either way. I really don't think the PS4 will be BC though. Companies have realized that consumers will re-purchase anything and everything over and over again. Sorry but it's the truth.

I highly doubt PS4 will be BC with PS3 games.. But yeah, if I'm buying a PS4 I'm definitely not buying it to play PS3 games.

If PS4 gets no BC, I really doubt I will buy it any time soon. I have more 50 games on PS3, IIRC.

I don't foresee the ps4 having b/c with ps3 games. The ps3 attempted this same move with the ps2 games and it caused a lot of problems for the ps3 (long run). Also Let's not forget the cost, sony is trying to avoid having another expensive console. They also want to avoid heat problems, as it's a issue with the ps3. b/c would most likely lead to more parts. More parts = more heat and more money. It IS possible that it could be b/c with ps2 and ps1 games, although, no one knows anything yet.

I would love for it to be BC with the PS3 but if it isn't, then it isnt. I'm still going to get it. If I want to play PS3 games then I will bust out my PS3. I am not one of those people who sell old systems anyway. I still have my first NES.

I don't think it's a hypothetical situation... it's all but confirmed PS4 won't use Cell so BC will be impossible without some BS streaming nonsense. And DLC? Who knows how they'll handle that. It's exactly the reason I never wasted my money on any of it or most PS3 games. So BC or not, don't care :)

I bought a 60Gb PS3, maybe I really thought BC was important, maybe it was the hype around it, but anyway I got the "backwards compatible" model. I played DoA hardcore and Splashdown maybe 5 times each. Played Shin megami tesei nocturne some time later, but many good games then so didn't play much. Then didn't use BC at all.

So for next gen I won't care at all about BC.

Most game companies has X86 builds i.e. download the small exe program and recycle the blu-ray disc for art assets.

I really would like BC but if the ps4 doesn't have it, it isn't a deal breaker. If the ps4 did have BC, I would most likely buy it sooner. I have a PS3 with like 50 games so I am keeping it forever.

I am waiting for the slim ps4 in a couple years.

I am sure the PSN will have "ps3 classics" and sell them overpriced.

Some people can't afford a new system without getting money by selling the old one. Though, I guess that problem solves itself when they just wait to have enough money, which is probably what I'm doing.

I'm like 99% sure that PS4 won't be BC. The PS4 will be using completely different technology, so unless they can fit a PS3 inside the thing, I don't see it happening. That said, I would be more than happy to repurchase some of my favorite first party titles if they ported them over and put them on PSN. I don't know how hard they would be to port, but if it could be done, I'd have no need for a PS3.

I'm keeping both consoles. I love my PS3 and there are many great games on it. Plus I would then have two blu ray players which is cool.

Well I was planning on keeping my PS3 but I really do want the PS4 to be backwards compatible. I don't like having multiple systems hooked up. Plus, what about the YLOD? I am already on my second PS3. I spent $500 dollars on my 1st PS3 and $250 dollars on my second PS3. I don't think PS3's are built to last. What do I do when my second PS3 breaks? I think what Sony should do is offer 2 models; one with backwards compatibility and one with out it or they should offer some kind of expansion add-on that enables the PS4 to be backwards compatible. So the whole "if you want to play PS3 game; just keep your PS3" argument is not a good answer because you have to remember the YLOD. either way, having 3 systems (PS2, PS3 and PS4 hooked up to the TV is not very attractive to me...

BC would be nice but by no means is a deal breaker. Streaming sounds horrible but if the PS3 library ends up available for DD I would be thrilled.

Then I wont need to buy a PS4 for at least several more years. I'm still going strong with my PS3 and it'll keep me entertained for awhile more. If the PS4 wont help me do that then I wont need one.

I honestly don't expect the PS4 to be backwards compatible. I do hope, at the least, that all downloadable games purchased from the PS Store will be available to re-download, however. If the PS4 miraculously is BC, I'd sell my PS3 so I could upgrade the HDD if it isn't high enough and of course put forth the rest in purchasing the PS4. But I still think this is unlikely and I don't have a problem with keeping my PS3, which will surely still get a good amount of playing time once the PS4 rolls around.

Just like I did with the PS1 and PS2, I plan to trade in my PS3 for the next generation PlayStation. Money isn't the issue, however I move on to the new games and leave the old ones in good memory.

Plus, I'm sure there will be another service that offers playable PS3 games digitally, like Gaikai.

I know its probably way more complicated than what I'm thinking, but if the PS4 is Blu-ray run (which it will be), then I don't see why it won't be able to run PS3 games.

Probably dumb logic but thats how I think of it.

I don't get why BC is so important. People might as well say they won't buy a PS5 if it won't play PS4 games.

PS3 architecture is a bit foreign. Basically PS4 architecture would have to be designed similarly in order to allow it to emulate PS3's operating system. Sony rumors are that they built good, stable and easily developed hardware/software so it will surely have compatibility issues. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us all? Would love to be wrong but from a logical point of view I don't see it happening.

Who cares. Last time they kept it because people whined it cost a lot. WHen they took it out people whined then. If you want to play PS3 games keep your PS3. It is not really that hard. I buy a PS4 to play PS4 games. Now if they make them available for download at a cost and I really really really really want to play it on the PS4 then I will have to pay that price or..... continue to play it on my PS3

It isn't a deal breaker for me if the PS4 doesn't have BC. But if it has BC, I am likely to buy it sooner because even though the PS4 library will suck due to being so small, I would be able to play my PS3 games as well as be willing to continue buying PS3 games as well as PS4 games. If it doesn't support BC, then I will not buy one until the library is big with plenty of games now being $20. I will just continue to focus on the PS3 and ignore the PS4 until it has that library. I am also not willing to pay any more than $300.

Why even bother coming into the thread? gtfo...

I'll keep my PS3 and eventually buy a PS4 even if it doesn't have BC.

I wonder what would be more benefical to Sony as a company to be honest. Since PS3 didn't have BC with PS2 games, the life of the PS2 got extended extremely long, but they were selling at $99. If people had the option to play PS2 games on the PS3, how many of those would have purchased the PS3 instead? I guess it just comes down to what earned them more money, the PS2's they sold during this gen, or the PS3's they might have sold if they had BC.

Hopefully it has BC, but I really doubt it will.

I know, right? I don't even know why people are so against backwards compatibility . It's a very convenient feature. I get very annoyed when people do that. They should not come in to a thread if it talks about something they don't care about.

Well, you can also give your opinion that you are indifferent on the subject. Personally I don't care either way if PS4 has BC... I'm buying it to play PS4 games personally.. But if it has BC (which I highly doubt due to the obvious huge change in system architecture), that's cool I guess.

Backwards compatibility in PS4 will raise production costs. I'm sure PS4 will be more expensive than PS3's current price as it is. BC is unlikely ever to happen, ever again.
