Well I live in a college dorm and in this dorm the only online games that work on the PS3 are the Call of Duty games. I, quite frankly, am sick and tired of MW2 and want to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. I tried the demo and it was no surprise to me that it didn't work. I asked a friend who lives down the hall if he was able to play it on his 360. He said it worked. Along with every other available online game on the 360. I can't play Uncharted 2, Killzone, Resistance, you name it. I'm seriously considering selling my PS3 because I'm a Freshman and have3+ years of college to go. I need online multiplayer....SO my question is, should I do the trade? Try to level with me and don't flame. Thanks

Needs to be in system wars since all threads containing the 360 or Wii and discussing them is classed as System Wars... silly, but true. And work out a way to make it work. There's always a reason - they don't just not work. Try doing internet connection test and see if anything looks out of place, see what sort of setings your friend uses, try wired if that's possible... do a bit of searching around, too, since a lot of people will probably have the same problem. Also, try and find someone with a PS3. I reckon there must be SOMEONE with a PS3 where you are.

Sorry about putting this in wrong thread. My bad. I know two other people in my entire hall that have PS3s. There's probably like 20 360 users. One of the PS3 guys just plays CoD and the other isn't into online games.....My settings are fine. I have NAT2 security and a wired connection. It just doesn't work and I'm not messing with the IT department anymore. It probably has something to do the colege being a partner with Microsoft or however you call it..... So you say no to the trade then.

Do you have access to your router? Did you try setting your ps3 to a static IP and then set it to DMZ. Shouldn't be necessary but its worth a shot... sounds like your router is screwing the connection up.

you will most likely have the same problems with the 360. in fact, i'd see if you can borrow one for just a minute and see if you can play one of their games from your connection. if you can then im going to assume that somethings not setup right in your ps3, if you can't then you know it's the router/line. i always recommend a hardline (which you say you're using) those tend to be the easiest to setup.

Try something new to challenge your energy or competitive spirit. I recommend a fighting game like Street Fighter 4 or BlazBlue; Calamity Trigger.

i'm having a hard time figuring out how one console's connection works and another console's connections doesn't work. have you tried your ps3's connection in someone's dorm where it "works?" i'm sure it's not a conspiracy against sony at your college....

I'm going to say no to the trade. The PS3 is a media center, it can play games, sync with your computer and play blu ray. The 360 is great for shooters, but suffers from a high failure rate... and you have to pay to play online. Since you are school i would assume paying for things would be a bit of a concern. I think the issue is your schools connection... there likely is a way around it if you crawl around on google. You likely won't be in a dorm next year anyways (most people rent a house nearby) and then you'll regret trading it in for such a silly thing as having issues breaking through your schools firewall.

Good point. I would just deal with it for now. I mean there are a ton of great single player games coming out this year. I would just play those, and see if things get better next semester. Don't trade it in though.

I'd wait it out. Dorm rooms are worse than when you move out of the dorms to a regular house or condo. My ps2 didn't work online when i was a freshmen, but we just played 8 v 8 v 8 v8 on halo so i didn't care. When you move out you will be able to get online, in the time being...save your money and buy a 360.

don't trade in. You will probably spend more money that way which isn't good for college. Just wait it out with COD or the singleplayer games (GOWIII, FFXIII, HR)if you can't figure out this problem. Also, try outintramural sports for your competitive drive. Kept me sane throughout college.

Call the AV club.,,,,,they got people who your parent pay through tuition whose job it is to deal with that stuff.... Its a common think with college internet....most likely is something to do with opening ports.......
