I can't believe this.. I'm reading some news about GT PSP for few days and I can believe in what people are saying..? GT:PSP will not have simulation mode? YouTube videos and several pictures from game confirm that rumor (or it's not a rumor anymore..). If it's true - GT PSP will look just the same as ToCA3:Challenge, something to play for 1-2 days..

- Single Player

- Multiplayer

- Mission Challenge

- and Car Dealer

Where is something that will keep players for more than one month of playing GT PSP? Where are RaceLeauges, Endurance and Dirt races..? This whole "magic", where you are gaining driving experience and more money to upgrade or change your car? I've played ToCA3 for few days and I can honestly say - it's very enjoyable. But when you have only challenges (win the race with no damage, drive through cones, brake in chosen places, etc..) you don't have a feeling of continuous play.

When I heard first time about GT PSP and famous 800 cars I couldn't believe how they'll put all of this into one UMD disc. And now I know - without simulation mode they have enough "space" for hundreds of cars. But for me this version of GT will disappoint many fans. It's great that Polyphony Digital is finally releasing this game, but why they're changing it's form so much? Today for some players GT PSP will look and feel no more like a handheld addition to GT5..

Try to compare GT PSP to classic GT2 from PSX. Buying GT PSP is like buying just one, "Arcade disc".

I was so disappointed with ToCA3:Challenge.. And now I know that GT PSP will be almost the same (with the exception of cars..). There is more! I BOUGHT PSP-3000 ONLY FOR GT:PSP! other games are just for killing time.

If you want - comment this and please don't write that it's true.. :/

If it's true - I am waiting for GT2 in PSN Store.. or getting GT2. There is no way that GT PSP will be worth buying for me without Simulation mode. I've wait too much (from GT1 and GT2) to spend money only on 100 challenges and single races..

There's no real confirmation about this, and sadly...we all know how Poly Digi is...they never reveal ANYTHING until the game is released...so we basically are clueless about a lot of the features in PSP GT and GT5...

I'm still buying it regardless...I NEED my racing fix.

Exactly..! For me simulation mode is the essence of GT! Without it you'll be getting just 50% of real "GT fun"..

No kidding. That is what the game was prized for when it first came out. Lets hope this isn't true.

"Test Your Driving Skills -- Complete over 100 challenges to hone your driving skills and learn new cornering, braking and other driving techniques." from: http://www.us.playstation.com/granturismo/products_gtpsp_home.asp emm.. I don't think they added some sort of simulation mode to challenge series, calling it "test your driving skills". I'm concerned that it won't be possible to choose cars for challenges (just like in "old" GT Licenses). As for me GT PSP will have a different form, it will be concentrated on collecting/trading/winning cars (Mission Challenge/Car Dealer) and then racing them with friends or in single races. No "pure sim" like in previous GT games.

I bought a PSP 3000 just for Gran Turismo Mobile I agree that Simulation Mode is the heart and soul of the GT series but honestly I could care less if its not in the game,I'm just glad that after 4 years of waiting we are finally getting Gran Turismo Mobile, unless the game only consists of driving challenges and arcade mode then I'll be dissapointed....... P.S. is Toca 3 worth it?does it have a career mode and stuff? I'm getting Toca 2006 soon but am considering buying Toca 3 later on.

I've seen them too. That's why I've created this topic. There is nothing about sim mode..

ToCA 3 is a great game, but it doesn't have career mode: Single Race, Multiplayer, Quick Race (one click and you're in totally random race with random car and opposition) and Challenge mode. Challenge mode has few difficulties: Novice, Easy, Normal, Hard and Expert (as far as I remember). Every difficulty has few challenges and one or two small championships to win (championship = 3 races with points). The concept is great, however you can't change car in challenges. There is more.. if you want to race in championship you've got to complete some challenges first. And If you are stuck in some challenge - you can't go any further, and you can change car or do something else..

Do you remember Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus? It's a great game with "Infinity mode" in single player. MGS: PO+ has no story, only short missions and multiplayer mode (infrastructure and ad-hoc). BUT! It is only an addition to Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - a "root" game with story. The same situation should be with games like GT. If Polyphony Digital want to change form of this game - they could create GT in old form and then think about additional, trading-based version of GT.. I know that it's all about portability, but Konami did the right thing - MSG has "career mode" and for fans of "portable entertainment" there is MGS: PO+ which is also a very good title.

If it turns out it doesn't have the sim mode then I won't get the game. It's the only reason I play GT games.

I have no interest in the dated and often broken online in GT5: P so I don't have any high hopes of it being better in GT:PSP.

I'm saddened to tell you that there apparently is no simulation mode. Hopefully, I'm not violating an embargo, but unless it's hidden/unlockable somewhere, there's AdHoc, challenge mode (seems like an more extensive version of the usual driving licenses) and single player which allows for either single race, time trial or a drift trial mode. You do earn money to buy new cars (and the more laps you choose, the more prize money there is), but there don't seem to be any racing leagues or cups.

oh man, I was so looking forward to this :( I mean, what have they been working on for this length of time? The game was announced at E3 2004 if I remember correctly! I would have settled for fewer cars and tracks if they had put in the simultion mode. Without it, this game is like a portable version of GT Concept without the cool concept cars, or the first disc of GT2 as already mentioned.

seriously, I'm incredibly disappointed if this is true.

Well not sure what to make of this, but over on the GTPLANET forums, there's a guy who made a giant post about GT PSP from playing the FULL LIVE game at Gamescom...he has tons of youtube vids and whatnot...he never mentions a "SIM MODE" but he says they have "GT MODE" which consists of buying cars, used cars, license tests, ALL differnet kinds of races...Rally, 4x4, FWD, RWD, size/weight Races...Car wash, oil change, test track etc. He played the final build of the game...

Anyway if thats true, Im happy.

Well, SoulCalibur Broken Destiny didn't have a arcade or story mode, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

I've seen those videos and.. I don't get it.. Even if GT will not have simulation mode (most gt players are saying that it is a nonsense..) It's still one of the most desired racing games.. Producer of GT, Kaz Yamauchi, said in one of interviews that GT PSP will be totally different in comparison to previous GT games - It will be more "party-game".. I think that this version of GT will be "Ad-hoc oriented", something like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. You can play it in single player mode, but playing with your friends and car trading will bring the most fun of GT PSP. Is it good or bad..? I don't know.. But I'm one of many PSP owners that doesn't have PSP players for playing ad-hoc games.. Hmm.. If GT PSP could have possibility to trade cars ONLINE..! Damn... It would be something beautiful.. :)

Weeeellll... as much as I would like to believe there will be a simulation mode, I can see them structuring the game around set race challenges instead of the traditional GT game we all love on the console. Unfortunately, it makes a lot of logic-sense when you consider all of the different stuffthey're trying to string together for this title, and how many cars it offers... the devs never skimp on detail when it comes to individual handling and other physics of each model and make, so all of that combined with the amount of tracks, perhaps they have gone the route of "Race Driver" where they took everything about what made the game so great and they turned it into glorified license tests and extended mini-challenges a few years back. While it's good and technically a RD game, the open-ended feel of entering leagues and winning actual RACES and series of races was sort of lost in the traffic cones.

I certainly hope they make it more like a console entry, but i can see the logic.

Hmm, so what exactly is simulation mode? (never played a GT before. I know, blasphemy, right?)

Is it the games name for the 'career mode', or what?

It is basically a career mode where you complete races in a given class to unlock access to higher classes, collecting and modding cars along the way. Personally, as long as I can purchase and modify cars (and race them, of course) I'm ok with whatever they do. It doesn't have to be laid out like the console versions, so long as the cars, mods, tracks, and races are there in some form.

I will be getting the game no matter what, but I REALLY hope that GT Mode is just a new version of Simulation Mode. I'm also hoping that the more extensive license tests is just a rumor. They have gone WAY overboard with the license tests in GT3 & GT4, and most of them are pretty pointless.

Like i said, in single player, you can choose freely between time trials, drift challenges or single race events (the more laps, the higher the prize money), pick a car in your garage and choose the track you want to race on. That's really all there is to it (plus optional car setup adjustments) and as far as I can see, there are no car upgrades to buy or tracks to unlock. Driving challenges have a total of 9, partially branching blocks with different, themed challenges. I only did the first one, but it starts with the usual "drive straight and stop in the target zone" with different cars, further challenges are called "notorious corners from world circuits" or "advanced overtaking". Bronze, silver and gold trophies are awarded for good performance and you also get some money for completing a challenge.

So... We have a very first review of Gran Turismo PSP made by IGN. The game was rated: 6.8!

"I'm a huge, hugefan of the Gran Turismo franchise, so it pains me immeasurably to say that this is a greatly disappointing release. See those bullet points I listed above, what with the 800 cars and all? That's pretty much all you're getting with the game - cars and tracks. There's no proper career mode. There isn't a reason (or even ability) to buy a car and gradually upgrade it to compete in bigger and better events. It's just racing, and largely without a good reason for doing so, especially when you consider that the experience had to be boiled down to the PSP's hardware and control abilities."

It's.. I can't find words to describe how disappointed I am.. This review confirmed every doubt about GT PSP.. For me this game is not worth buying.. It's so painful, because I've been waiting for GT PSP so much..! But if somebody feels the same - I have solution for that :) I'm buying PS2 and GT4.. Sorry but I'd rather spent money on game that will keep me playing for more than 5-6 days (like ToCA3 on PSP).. GT PSP doesn't have the soul of Gran Turismo series - it's just a simple race game with 800 cars, created on GT engine.
