There was actually a demo (don't remember which one) a while back that couldnt be played in SD. I have an Hdtv but my friend doesnt, and was wondering why he couldnt play the game and i could...well...sadly the solution is obvious, but not affordable. Dang...a lot of people are going to be pissed if you can't play this game in SD.

Lies. Is your TV made out of stone and is cut one with a bird flying out of your remote?

I have Phillips Real Flat SD and I have no problems with Demos (and Ive played 99% of them, except for the MBL, NFL, NHL things.) If GTA IV has that issue, I will just get a Flat Monitor 22" and a VGA Box sooner than I expected.

GTA IV will play fine on any tv made after 1981. If you have a tv with bunny ears, get a new one.

If you own a next gen console like the Ps3, you should really invest in a HDTV. It really makes the games you play 100 times more enjoyable.

Seriously if you have the money to buy a PS3, you must have enough to invest in a HDTV. I mean geez, you can get a nice 720p for about $700-900 now. That is of course unless you are dead set on getting a 50+" screen! I bought a 37" Phillips 720p HDTV with 2 HDMI for $700 on sale.

Are you in Europe(or european tv) with a US version of the game or vice versa? it may have something to do with the SD output of EU tvs 576i and the american 480i. There was a game when the ps3 launched that did this i cant just remeber which.

I've got the same issue. I own a US 80 GB PS3, purchased in Feb. 08, and am using it at my friends place on their 3 yr old panasonic flat screen. I've plugged it in through the normal composite cables (yellow, white, red), and it says "this game cannot be played at this resolution." Oh, and its a PAL version bought in the Middle East. The store I bought it in, just after I finished paying, had a kid come in saying it wouldn't work, and the guy at the counter asked if he had HDTV, but I ignored it, figured it had something to do with his PS3 settings. Voila, doesn't work for me either. Some of you need to chill, because there are other systems and versions outside of the US. What Ive seen so far is that its directly related to the PAL version, not the US NTSC version. So for us who bought a PAL version, we are screwed. Has nothing to do with the blu ray region or anything, simply didn't include a lower res in the PAL version, the B@#tards. Probably some conspiracy with sony to push HD in a region (the Middle East) where practically nothing is broadcast in HD.
