I have my ps3 connected through hdmi to my TV. A lot of times when I start up the ps3, the audio will be really wierd with buzzing and all that, but it fixes when i unplug the hdmi cable and re-plug it in. Other times my tv won't even recieve a signal when i start up my ps3, but when i unplug the cord and plug it back in, the xmb will pop up on the screen. I don't have another hdmi cable and i don't have another hdmi tv to try, so do you guys thing the problem is with the console, the cord, or the tv?

I have my sound connected to the TV via a component cable. When I want to use surround sound I connect the sound system via the optical cable and sometimes I will swap the connection on the tv from the satellite box to the console(just have to change system settings afterwards). I found that the tv didn't really support optional sound devises through the HDMI connection.

What kind of cables do you use I have the psycho cable that cost me more money but the cable was thicker. Make sure no damage has been done to the cable

I would probably buy some better cables. If you're going to buy a $600 console I would buy the best stuff avaliable.

I would suggest trying to find a way to test your HDMI cable. Either by using another HDMI device that you know is working or by using another cable with the PS3. No need to buy a pricey cable, everything can break and paying more wont help except if you plan running on your cable with your car or something....

Actually try this first

in audio settings change the audi output from  linear to bit  (that is if it's linear)

yeah thats what i was hoping to do, only problem is i have no other hdmi devices.guess i'll just start with a different console. refurbs aren't bad anyways. and if i still have the problem i'll know to try either a different cable or a diff tv.

you could try putting in the regular composite (red, yellow, white) cable that came with the PS3 and see if that happens. (however remember that video will be in 480i- you are just doing that to see what the problem is)

1: If the same thing happens, then your tv or PS3 may be the problem.

2:  If not then it's most likely the cable.

(there is also the factor that the actual connectors [where the hdmi cable goes into on your tv and PS3] on the PS3 or your tv is bad)

that's all i could think of

everything works fine when i use component cables, and because the problem mainly occurs when i play ps2 games (occasionally on ps3 games and never on dvd or bluray movie), i'm guessing theres a problem with the hdmi port of my console. tough to tell for sure without troubleshooting though.
