I also didnt like it a bit. It's maybe a Japanese thing. One of these games that becomes a big seller in the Japanese market but doesnt do much sense for Europeans or Americans. I tried to play, it was Monster Hunter Freedom i assume, and after 10 mins gave it up. Maybei should have been more insistent to get the essence but these miniscule items in inventory and vague graphics made me not continue.
If the controls didn't suck (no targetting lock-on? I spent more time trying to line myself up to do a forward attack than hitting the damn monsters), I may have enjoyed it more.
At most, it felt like an offline MMO (lots of grinding quests and repetitive farming), and I probably should have played it co-op with a friend locally who owned it as well.
[EDIT] Oh right, the load times were long, even by console standards. This is a portable gaming system, load times need to be quick.
Graphics were a non-issue for me. I like to have a story in a game though and MH has an even less than bare bones story. I think the learning curve is a bit too steep for my taste as well; it ends up feeling more like work than a game. I have a full time job and mouths to feed so feeling-like-I'm-working in a game is a huge no for me. That work-intensive feeling is more appealing to alot of people though, it gives a huge sense of accomplishment when you finish something. I'd bet that's why so many people like it.
I didn't like it either TC, but not for lack of trying. Owned MHF and sank about 40hrs into it. Far too boring and repetitive.
What I don't get is the kids that literally spend THOUSANDS of hours doing the same damn thing, over and over.
Grow some stuff, do a quest, kill a monster, make new gear, rinse, repeat...... etc...etc...
Couldn't keep me entertained thats for sure.. :P
No way monster hunter is awesome. The gameplay has depth and requires skill. It is all about timing and precision. Please people learn how to play the game before you judge it. Saying things like it has no lock on is pretty pathetic, any core monster hunter player would know that having lockon will destroy the gameplay that makes it so great. You will eventually have to fight two boss monster at the same time and you will eventually fight a invisble monster.

The graphics are fine... You need patience in the game... there's a lot of reading and the learning curve is steep. It's a ******* RPG. It's all about grinding. Get over it and go back to playing RR online or SOCOM, which is "so well done". You're all just picking fights and ought to be reported, but I'm too bored with you to bother.
i played MHF1 long ago on PSP, didnt like it either.
But now i got a different mentality and want to try MHFU
I like the idea of the MH games (hunt in a group and go out to hunt bad ass monsters, each with their own skills), but with so many sales, why hasnt a company did their own better version?
MH series has poor networking, and mass repitition. Maybe MH3 will be better, but with it being on wii networking is a joke.
If a MH comes out for PS3/360. Ya ill be excited about that.

Picking fights? The TC just stated an opinion and others commented about it. The only ones "picking fights" are those too immature to accept that..
Ought to be reported?.. Seriously?.. :|
Grow up man..
When I played Monster Hunter for the first time, I hated it because it was boring and hard. Once you learn how to play you start to have fun from the game and you will not find the game boring. The graphics are good (I don't mean excellent) at least it is clear to see. The sounds are awesome the way you hear the flesh being cut by a large sword or the raging roar of the wyverns. The game has tons of content: weapons, armors, items, enemies, bossed, missions and mini games. Also when you start to play ad hoc with other friends it is so sweet.
Don't forget that this game is one of the best selling titles. Don't listen to what the critics say about.
The game takes probably 10 hours or so to get into. Once you start building up an inventory of items to build armor and weapons with, the game really starts to take off. There's a bit of repetition, as in doing some quests over and over in order to get enough items to build "that next upgrade", but it makes the game pretty fun nonetheless.
I still recommend it to people all the time.
You have to put TIME in MH, who liked WoW in the beginning? Nobody. The first quests are f*cking boring for everybody but it get's cool after the tuturial quests. BTW, the graphics aren't poor, they are awesome what's wrong with the graphics?

Where u talked about WoW, ur soooooo wrong, i bet everyone who likes WoW liked it from the very begining!! Cuz i did!!
for PSP the graphics are definatly above average. thing that makes it popular is the competitiveness of the game.......everyone wants the best armour and weapons and wants to kill every monster in the game. Theres also rare items to show off. its also about completing it 100% by getting all the awards. its like in consoles, some people quit playing games but as soon as trophies came out on PS3, everyone replayed their games just to get the trophies. In monster hunter, most people dont stop until they unlocked everything on their "guild card" (profile) and the biggest reason is that its a hard game and requires a lot of skill and strategy.....if you play it 2 hours and complain then your not doing yourself a favour.....it takes hours and hours. This also makes the community massive as they exchange information on how to defeat monsters and also hunt together. the famous milestone is 150 hours which most hunters pass, now thats a lot of gameplay......some have also exceeded 1000 hours.fps_d0minat0r
Graphics are not above average, they aint even average, they are definetly below average!!
On the other things i dont argue cuz its different for everyone, for me it was wasted time!!
Monster Hunter is a great game, sure its not that great on graphics but think about it(it saves some memory spaces for psp users)
well i dont blame some people for hating it,since it does get repitative sometimes but your gonna need to repeat the stages alot to memorize the stage completely
whats really great about monster hunter is the difficulty i mean whats the point of playing an easy game where you dont lose?this game requires skill and awareness unlike some games
i like the game not having and auto-target because that adds the difficulty
for those who quit so easily means that you cant take the fear of fighting monsters alot especially the really hard ones but i dont think you've reached them if you guys already quit
it's actually pretty garbage, but young kids like it a lot -- especially in Japan.HoldThePhone
Says the one with "I LOVE TIDUS!" all over his sign.

Gotta agree on that, though you've got to admit that what makes WoW so great is the fact that it has constant updates.
If you played MHF2, you'd notice a big change; the graphics are much clearer and the fact that there's no lock-on is what distinguishes those who like it and don't like it normally. I for one, like the fact that there's no lock-on because it requires skill and not just button mashing. The loading times from MHF to MHF2 are also shortened and everything has been more refined and organized. Also debateable between fans of those who like it and don't would be the length you put in to it. You can't like the game if you don't invest at least 10 hours in it.
i dont agree with last part. GOW is extremly short and even more likeable :P but than again, just another personal opinionIf you played MHF2, you'd notice a big change; the graphics are much clearer and the fact that there's no lock-on is what distinguishes those who like it and don't like it normally. i find it so interestingly bizare how people always argue about MHF. its like its a cursed game. i understand if you exchange opinions, but trying to convince a person into believing what YOU think is unethical and selfish. every one has their own opinions and so it will be untill this ball we call home explodes or whatever. personally i love MHF. mostly because its insanly fun to play with my friend. anyway guys... and girls if theres any.... you either love mhf or hate it. theres not between feelings :P now stop being silly and donst argue about is it good or not. because it is good. and it is bad. but, that depends on the person who says its good/baddarkPSPfan
Sums it up right there. Well said..
i love monster hunter, i think the graphic are fine, and if you think the graphic, is graphic make up a game?? so graphic is all you care about? the gameplay is awesome too, there is a lot of technique, it really take skills, not like other games, you just press 1 button to beat a game, there is a lot of different stuff, a lot of armour, armour upgrade, different weapons
God i just dont understand how u can say good graphics to THAT, i mean look at tekken, crisis core, god of war etc.
