I dropped my PSP down a flight of stairs in my house a few days ago...
But it didn't go down the flight of stairs; it fell in the empty space between the guardrails. I was in the second story on my house and I placed my PSP on the floor near the stairs to stop my one-year old daughter from doing something destructive, and my foot pushed my PSP near the edge of the top step, when I reached for my daughter. It was literally a slow-motion moment; I could see the weight of the PSP slowing pulling it over the edge, then falling. But my PSP was unharmed. Two things were in my favor:
1) My PSP was in the official Sony licensed travel case (I'd highly recommend it over any third party cases).
2) My PSP hit a table I had in the floor below and bounced off before hitting the ground below.
It hit the table, bounced and hit the floor. My travel case split in two, and my PSP flew out of the case, and hit the ground. The UMD port opened, the UMD inside ejected, and battery housing came off, along with the "PUSH" button to release the battery cover.
So I ran downstairs (after making sure my daughter was safe in her playpen) to examine the damage. The travel case split in two, but split right where the hinges were (it's a clamshell design). I simply snapped them back together, and there is no evidence of any damage at all; no cracks or scratches of the shell, etc. Like I said before, I definitely recommend it.
On to my PSP. The UMD port was opened, and it had come slightly askew from the housing in the bottom left corner. I simply snapped it back in, and the UMD port opened and ejected a UMD just like new. As I said before, my battery cover had come off as well. I snapped that back on, and then snapped on the little "PUSH" button to the housing. Now this is my only problem. There must have been another part that goes between the PSP housing and the "PUSH" button, like a spring or something, because when I press the "PUSH" button, the battery cover does come off; I have to pry it off myself. Still, besides that my PSP works just fine. I bought my PSP back on launch day in 2005, and never really used it until this last six months. Now, with all the games out and upcoming releases, I've been playing it more than my PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, or DS.
Tough little thing, the PSP. Hopefully, my launch PSP will last until they release the PSP2.
