Yup never knew it would happen. Just a regular day playing GTA IV then BOOM! the ps3 restarts and the ylod appears. Anyone have any tips on making it work again? I say some youtube videos and I might try some of the things they do in them. So if anyone would be nice to send me a link on showing how to fix it it would be apreaciated :D

As long as you can get it working for a few days, you can back up your saves. I'd recommend getting a new PS3 though.

Does the slim let out more air? I have been hearing that the slim has more of a less chance to get the YLOD than the FAT. Is this true?

the slim has a less chance of getting the ylod. heres my suggestion get the disc out by using 2 methods 1)dissassambe and get it out manually (hard, would reccomand as the last thing to do ) 2) do the hairdryer trick to get it working for a day or two and get the game out. then get a slim version and keep on playin :P

yah man, welcome to the world of the ylod ps3! Mine has been broken for a couple months and I tried my best to make it work but it doesn't work.

here is some of advices

1- change the thermal paste. if it works well again, then that's cool!

2- if not, then save up you money, but don't buy a heat gun or other things to fix your ps3. Don't make a temporary fix!!

3- instead, used your saved up money to get a new ps3 slim for a new happy life with your console :)

good luck

If you can manage to back that up, no. All you need to do is a simple transfer to the new hard drive then.

But yeah, you're better off getting a replacement. I hear PlayStations don't last long no matter how many times you fix them once they get the dreaded Yellow Light of Death.

After seing this i tried that hair dryer trick and it actually worked. Was able to get all my old data and even DL the new FW so i could get online to deactivate my acct with No problems. Thats all i wanted so idk how much longer itll last. Now you cant just swap your HDD into a new PS3 you will still lose your data, it reformats any HD thats not the original console one. You need to either put all your saves and data on a usb drive or if you have plus, cloud save it. Your gonna have to buy a new PS3 regardless unless you want a refurb. Either way swapping the HD isnt going to save your data.
