So i bought a 80G PS3 from costco a couple of weeks ago... it doesn't have the memory card slots and it only has 2 usb plug connections.... Does this mean its an old version? If it is will it have any hardware differences then the new ones?
This 80GB Playstation 3 is actually the "new" model. The older model had 4 USB slots, memory card readers, and backwards compatablity but was priced at $499.99. The 80GB Playstation 3 you got is the $399.99 core model, which offers 2 USB ports, no card readers, and no backwards compatability. Other than that, there's no difference. They both can play the same games, both can go on the PSN, etc. I have the 40GB model, and I have to say - 4 USB might have been nice, but its not needed. 2 is fine enough if you aren't lazy to unplug things when they're not needed. Card readers are pointless, because a USB flash drive can do whatever a memory card could. For backwards compatability, kinda' stinks but...if you're like me and still have your PS2, it ain't needed either. You're lucky you got 80GB though, cuz' space can get quite tight.
I also got the 80gb bundle from Costco, and the only difference is you have 2 usb ports, and BC(can't play ps2 games). There are probably some other differences that I don't pay attention to. You got the newer model. I kind of wish I got a BC ps3 though.
