(Edit: The title was originally "I got screwed by Sony," which didn't really make any sense because the game is marketed by EA, not Sony. I'd also quickly like to point out that the description for the Burnout bundle on the PlayStation Store's webpage is about three times shorter than the one on the PlayStation store when accessed through PSN. So there's no use in posting the description from the webpage. I've seen it. It's not what I'm looking for.) I just downloaded the Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box. I was going to buy the game anyway, and there is a $19.99 version and a $29.99 version. The Ultimate Box is the $29.99 version. Here's the problem: apparently I just paid an extra ten dollars for one useless feature. I WAS under the impression that the Ultimate Box included the Big Surf Island expansion, but it doesn't. It only includes the Party Pack, which is a "pass the controller" multiplayer mode. That's what I paid an extra ten dollars for. Something I could easily have done in one-player mode. All you do is pass the effing controller. But the point of this post isn't just to complain. I must have misread the descrpition of the Ultimate Box, but it doesn't appear anymore when I go into the PSN Store. I want to re-read it to see what I missed, but I can't. But I could have sworn it said the Big Surf Island was included, otherwise I never would have paid an extra ten bucks. I was wondering if anyone could quickly take a look at the description for the Ultimate Box and tell me what it says about the Big Surf Island, just so that this stops driving me crazy. (I also thought it said something about the cops and robbers mode being included too. If there's something about that as well, let me know what it said.) Thanks to anyone who helps me out with this.

So "Sony" (who have nothing to with with burnout) screwed you because you didnt bother to research the product?

Next time dont assume things and take 5 seconds to google/wiki it.

You must have read it wrong. I was considering purchasing it a few weeks ago and don't remember it saying something about the Island pack.

Here's what it says on Wikipedia.

The Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box is a re-release of the game that includes the original game plus all the new free updates and Party.

The game contains:

  • The original Burnout Paradise
  • Codename: Bogart
  • Codename: Cagney
  • Bikes Pack
  • Trophies Pack (PS3 only)
  • Party Pack
  • Update 1.6

Maybe you were so caught up in the moment of thinking about playing the game and expansion pack you were imagining everything on-screen while pressing "PURCHASE"

Well, the problem obviously is that I misread the description. I had no idea there was anything to research. I was just wondering what I misread to make me think it included the Big Surf Island. And yeah, that's true. Sony doesn't really have anything to do with Burnout. I think the same box set is on Xbox Live and stuff. Misdirected anger.

Consumers these days. And here I am triple checking any purchase over 1$, you, mate, didn't even triple check for a PS3 game. You just placed the blame on Sony...Just like every other person does when they made a blatant mistake. Original.

Yeah, I found that already. Thanks, though. That description is shorter than the one that was on the PlayStation Store when actually viewed on the PS3. I'm starting to think I was imagining things, but it's driving me crazy when I try to remember what was in the description that made me think it had more than just the party pack thing. And it'll probably turn out to be something really stupid on my part. I just want to know what it was.

Flamuel
Iread that the bike pack can be obtained by a free update for the standard game. Which, once again, I would have learned earlier if I had done some research. But instead of research, I just read the product description. Misread, apparently. I'm just curious what it was that I misread. (And, to reiterate, the thread title was misdirected anger. Sony obviously has nothing to do with this. I was also pretty clear in the first post that I'm aware I misread something. Obviously my own fault.)

Actually, I completely understand what you're going through. Except Sony didn't screw you, but it looks like you figured that out by now. Anyway, I downloaded the same bundle thinking it had a bunch of stuff that you couldn't get with the regular game for $19.99, but it turns out you can get the bikes for free and the island thing still costs like 12 bucks. For an extra 10 dollars you don't get much.

I just found someone else who read a description saying it had the Big Surf Island expansion. http://forum.needforspeed.com/eaforum/posts/list/270822.page So I may not be crazy. And if I'm wrong, then this is one of those great opportunities to prove someone wrong. All you have to do is go into the PSN Store on the PS3, read the description for the Burnout Paradise bundle found in the PS3 downloadable games section, and see what it says about the Big Surf Island, if anything. My suspicion is that it said something like "now Burnout brings the new Big Surf Island and other great features" or something like that. Meaning they're available, but not necessarily included in the bundle. But still misleading. Once again, thank you if anyone actually looks this up for me. And, once again, Sony has nothing to do with this. I gave no thought the the thread title. Let's move on.

I was going to be like every user and their dogs and post some crap about how you should have read properly, researched, etc, etc, but I love your avatar and username way too much. All I can say is that crap happens. I once bought a game on eBay for 15 bucks. It turned out to be just the manual - perfectly described (subtly) in the description, but misread by me. Take it as a painful learning experience.

Really, though, if anyone is close to their PS3, would it be possible to quickly read the description of the bundle and post here what exactly it says about Big Surf Island? (I can't because it won't show up anymore now that I've downloaded it. The game shows up, but not the bundle.) I just want to know what I misread. I was so certain that it was included for some reason, and I can't view it anymore to find out why.

Thanks, but that's not what I was looking for. That's from the PlayStation Store's webpage, which I'm able to see. The problem is that I can no longer see the description for the bundle that was in the PlayStation store when accessed using a PS3. (Since I've now downloaded it, the bundle no longer appears and is replaced by just the game.) The description there is about three times longer and mentions something along the lines of new features such as Big Surf Island. I'm just very curious as to what exactly it says about the Big Surf Island feature that led me to believe it was included. It may be very possible that it was simply the price tag that made me think it was included, and I misread something saying it's simply an optional add-on. I don't know. I'm just very curious to know what it said.

There's a Burnout Paradise + Big Surf Island bundle in the European PS Store that is not in the North Amercan store, is it possibe you read about the EU bundle and just made an uninformed assumption?

Having just looked up the description of the Ultimate bundle on the NA store, there's no mention of the Island anywhere in there. The only thing that could possibly be read the wrong way is where it says:

"What's more, you'll have everything that you need to take advantage of even more amazing new content coming to Paradise City through 2009 for players that love both off and online gameplay."

As the island did come out in 2009 I supposed you could sort of read into that paragraph that it might be in the Ult. bundle. The problem with that statement is that it's just the code for what became the island update that's on the disc.
